What Chris Didn't Know Before Joining Michigan Medicine as an Internal Medicine Resident

A few things that I didn't know about University of Michigan before I came here... that here they have a great balance of, you do certain internal medicine blocks because that is why you're here. Whether that be to continue on a career in internal medicine specifically or as a good foundation for a career as a specialist. So we do multiple internal medicine months, both as a senior and as an intern, but then you also have months in your intern and senior years where you're working in specialty inpatient services. And I feel like that's really helpful, both, especially if you're gonna continue on in that specialty. But then also if you're going to continue on as a primary care physician or as a hospitalist, getting a glimpse of how the specialists reason through it and then helping that to build upon the internal medicine background that that you're already building. Last thing just to emphasize, I feel like one thing, it's really hard to communicate over video and over phone, is just how much I and a lot of us enjoy living in Ann Arbor. It is just really, really unique because you have all the conveniences of a small town: living 10 minutes down the road from the hospital; being able to conveniently go throughout with minimal traffic. But then you also have this world renowned academic institution nestled right there right on the Huron river with a great downtown life, a lot of restaurants that you can go to. So it's just a really, really unique location and then situated all in a state that just has so much more to offer than I even knew until I got here.
