Reflecting on my time at Shidler | Faye Miguel

Aloha everyone, my name is Faye Miguel from Shidler College of Business, I am majoring in marketing, finance, and management information systems, graduating this May 2021. My time at Shidler is very important to me because as a person that came from the Philippines in 2013, I wanted to give back a lot to my mom and my grandma, and the school has helped me a lot in achieving these goals. Maui High had a great business program that encouraged me to be a business major. So our teacher that time brought us to Shidler for a campus tour and made me realize I wanted to be one of those students that is like walking around talking to people, having their pictures on top of the display cases to represent their organization. Later on that year, I was also invited to join the direct admit program for Shidler College of Business. And I grew a lot since then, from a freshman in 2017 to a business graduate now in 2021. My perspective has changed, I became more open minded, and I talked to a lot of people. I remember back then, I would panic just to have to talk to my peers, or any faculty, or professionals, or Shidler alumni. But now I am in front of you representing the Shidler student body, in front of the faculty and staff, the Shidler alumni, and the Hawaii community. So my advice for people that would go to Shidler College of Business, is just get out of your comfort zone. As cliche as it may sound, a lot of people are just too shy or too scared to take the risk, but I think you should do it, join that club, run for that position. So I will leave it to that. Just do it.
