Today I'm here to talk to you about my experience with remote learning. While here at Slippery Rock University, we have had to really, really adapt at Super Rock University in order to make sure that students and faculty were comfortable with remote learning. I personally am a graduate student, and I am pursuing a masters of business administration, which means that I personally would have been online either way, whether there was a pandemic or not, I would 100% still be online for my graduate program. The pandemic did hit right in the middle of my final semester as an undergraduate student, and I have to conform to online learning in order to complete my degree. Now I have spent an entire year and a half train two adapt to online learning. Online learning was not something that I was very used to. I had about one or two online classes while I was an undergraduate student. Switching to a format which is 100% online has been quite the task for me. In today's video, I will give you guys a few tips just to understand what online learning is like here at the Garage University. So not only are students adapting, but our faculty and staff are adapting to the remote learning world as well, which means there has been a lot of trial and error as to see what would be the best method of reporting and conducting our online classes. I've had a hybrid of different ways in which online learning was conducted. I have had synchronous and asynchronous classes, which means sometimes I have classes which are at my own pace, and I can kind of just go through and access virtual recordings and different things that will guide me through the course. I also had classes where I actually had to tune into his new meeting every day and and understand and kind of learn like I was in a classroom. It was just over the computer classes where I just kind of go at my own pace, and I just have to access recordings and different homework assignments and different tests throughout our online system, which is d2l has been very beneficial because those classes are able to help me adjust my schedule in order to make sure that I'm able to fit everything in and get everything done at a reasonable time. I do not have the stress of running into obstacles and different things like that because I can do things at my own pace. Meeting in a zoom room is very, very nice because you still kind of get that in class experience. You are still able to ask your teacher questions as things happen and you are able to interact with repairs and your classmates answer questions and still get insight as to what is going on and what topics are being discussed within your class. Period University is actually provided us with plenty tools that actually helped us in guiding and managing through this remote learning system. Our professors are still there, and they also do take online office hours in which you can go in and still speak to your professor as you would if you were on campus and kind of just get some clarity, asks a few questions, or just have a talk if you needed to. From there, our school still offers plenty of online resources. Every office that was active while we were on campus is still active. While we are remote, you're able to access them through phone, call, email and zoom. Those resources remain with you throughout your time. It was a very, very big thing in being able to conduct these remote classes. I believe that it is very, very important to be comfortable and to make a space in which you are able to actively learn and engage while you are taking your classes. So one of my biggest tips would probably be not to do your classes from in bed. Yes, you're at home, but it may be best to kind of get up, maybe go sit at a table, set up a desk, or even set up a work area in which you are able to completely focus and get into the zone that you are in school because yes, you're at home. It is very important that you maintain a level of organization and time management in order to successfully and progressively moved through your coursework. Another tip of mine would be to please take your time. Online school is stressful, especially in the middle of the panda. So many factors play into our current day to day living, and it is very, very important that you take that into consideration. It is important that you take your time with each assignment in order to put your best foot forward. I personally know for a fact that professors and steps have been a lot more understanding during these times. They're not normal and they're not what we're used to. It's been a huge transition for all of us, So it is very important that you take that into consideration. My lesson final tip is to please remain interactive. It is important that you continue to show the same amount of effort that you were to give while you were in the classroom. While you're conducting your remote learning experience. It is completely a T V. In order to maintain a level of scholarship as you do your remote learning now for me, I know it sounds like it's easier said than done, because trust me, I have now spent a year and a half in this position, and it is not easy. I do believe that it is possible for you to be successful with remote learning and to gain from this experience.
