I wanted to hop on here and introduce myself and give you all a little bit of background on how I found slippery rock university and my experiences in my time here. I'm a recent s. Are you graduate? I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in public health at a minor and gender studies and I also had a certificate in health and humanity's. When I was first starting to search for colleges back in my junior and senior year of high school, I had a little bit of a list of things that I wanted, like a designated campus that was easy to navigate somewhere where I really felt comfortable and felt like I was at home for the next four years and then something that had the pre physician assistant track to it. I looked at a ton of schools and I toured a few and when I towards slippery rock, it really checked all of my boxes. It's very easy to navigate and I was so excited to make my decision on coming to school here. Something that was in the back of my mind though was I don't know anyone going here from my area or anyone that already goes here. So I was a little bit nervous about being on my own and trying to make friends. Living in the dorms, made it so easy to make friends. Everyone was very welcoming, very friendly and the girls that I lived with in my freshman year dorm, I actually still live with now four years later. And that's something that's also been in the back of your mind about not being able to transition to a new place and make friends in a place where you don't know anyone don't worry about it. I promise you will find your people just like I did. Like I said before, my original plan was to go into the pre physician assistant track here at slip and I did do that for about a year and a half, two years. As I started taking more classes, I realized that I'm really interested in public speaking. I really like the education and wellness side of public health. So eventually I decided to transition out of the clinical side of physician assistant and into the concentration of health and humanity's, which is a certificate through the philosophy department that kind of combines health and the social aspects of health at the same time that I added that certificate in Health and Humanity's. I thought it was very fitting for public health because if I want to do education and promotion, it's very important to understand diverse populations and communities. So after I kind of found my groove and added my certificate and my minor, I wanted to start getting more involved on campus, which is not hard to do here. There's so much to do between on campus jobs and being involved in clubs and organizations. So I was elected to the public relations chair of the pennsylvania Public Health Association my junior year and then my senior year, I was elected to the position of president of that same club, which led me to a lot of amazing connections within the university with public health staff and also with other organizations on campus. I also got an on campus job as a Hope your educator which stands for healthy outreach through peer education. It's a student worker position in the health center on campus where you're able to research and facilitate programs related to college student health topics. So that got me more comfortable in public speaking and really helped me understand that I do want to be in a health education and promotion position. My on campus involvement opened a lot of doors for me. I made a lot of great connections with people and other organizations on campus and I also found out about a lot of professional development opportunities. So I took the certified health education specialist exam in april and I passed. Then I also found out that I want to do a masters of public health and health promotion and wellness here at slippery rock. Thanks to the help of my mentors and my advisers in those clubs and organizations. So I'll be here at slippery rock for two more years pursuing that master's program. I will also be the social media marketing graduate assistant for the office of enrollment management. So you will see my face on here a little bit more and I can't wait to tell you more about my experiences, slippery rock and all the amazing things slippery rock has to offer. Hopefully this video answered some questions for you if you're deciding between schools right now and I can't wait to see you in future videos.
