I'm a third year student studying dietetics and nutrition at R I. T. Welcome back today, I'm gonna be creating a video for you guys about the academic programs we have at our I t We have tons and tons of different programs available to students, but I'm gonna be talking about my experience with the academic programs here with my program specifically. Like I said, I'm part of the dietetic and nutrition program at R i T. That's part of our health sciences and technology college. So I've been taking nutrition classes as early as my first semester here. I chose to study nutrition, um, for a variety of reasons, growing up food and health with something that was really interesting to me. I never actually really considered studying nutrition until I got into high school and took a nutrition class. Um, there's definitely some courses that are more difficult than other courses. Um, it's definitely a more rigorous curriculum than most of my courses were in high school. Um, typically, you'll only have class, maybe like 1 to 4 hours a day. Um, rather than being in school for eight hours a day, you have a lot more time outside of school, which is where it's really important to make sure you're managing your time. Well, it's really easy to, um, be lazy, get distracted, hang out with friends because you have more time outside of school. It's definitely really important to find a balance between spending time with friends and having like a social life as well as, um, succeeding academically doing your homework, studying for exams, everything like that. The class sizes are I t Vary, um, I've had cost is as small as five people and I've had a cost as large as about 180 people. Typically, some of your first year costs is as well as like the General, um, introduction class. If you do have a class that's a big lecture, you'll typically have a lab section or a recitation section separately at a different point in the week where that's a smaller group of people, Um, typically like 2025 students with either the professor or a ta or something to just go over some of them. That's just a great way, um, toe ask questions if you don't necessarily feel comfortable asking like a bigger classroom setting, um, or just get some extra help with a professor. The professors here are also really, really amazing. I have really loved all the professors that I've had. Honestly, um, they are required to hold office hours throughout the week. I had to take organic chemistry my first year here, which is a fairly difficult course. So I'm just gonna talk about some of the costs I've taken personally, Um, the nutrition program is fairly science heavy, so I took chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, anatomy and physiology. Those were the main science courses that I had to take. Um, there's actually a business component of the nutrition program as well, so I had to take things like accounting, um, management. Emerging at R. I. T is three courses in a field outside your academic college. It's also great because a lot of students have multiple interests so they can take courses on in another interest of theirs. So I took three courses in the psychology program to fulfill my emergen requirement. Is that for the psychology course? A swell as a lot of other courses or emergence. If you just add on two or three more courses, you could get your minor. So I took my three required psychology courses from my immersion on. Then I'm taking two more psychology courses to fulfill my minor, which is awesome, So I had to take intro to psychology first. Currently, I took personality psychology, and I'm gonna take abnormal psychology. It took my perspective courses, so I ended up taking. So I took a critical thinking course and environmental science course, a French course, and those all fulfilled my perspective requirements and then obviously had to take. Nutrition course is definitely my favorite courses to take, Um, but I got to take new contemporary nutrition. Dietetic Environment was a super cool course where I actually got to meet with dietitians from around the area in different fields of nutrition or who had different jobs in different aspects of nutrition. Depending on where they work, which was really cool, I took techniques of dietetic education, life cycle, nutrition, um, and then medical nutrition therapy is, of course, I'll take next year community nutrition off those courses are programs are courses that I have to take from my program. On top of that, there is also a bunch of hospitality courses that are required, which are super fun. I got to take food production my first year here, and I'm in food innovation currently. That's those are both really cool courses because you actually get to cook during them. Um, for most programs, there's a general like course sequence because a lot of courses have prerequisites, so you have to fulfill prior courses before you can take, um, different courses. Um, so for those classes, you obviously have to go in a sequence, but you do have a lot of flexibility with your schedule. There's a ton of options, of course, is that you could take ah, lot of elective options, which is so much fun.
