The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
Hey guys, my name is Tosin Ojulari and I am a masters student at Ivey Business School and today I'm going to be talking about arguably one of the most important things that you need to consider when going into a business school, your career services. Now at Ivey our career services is called Ivey Career Management and the first touchpoint you're probably going to have with them is when you're conducting your interviews to see whether or not you get into Ivey. The reason why they conduct the interviews is because they know what it is that is required to get you a job. So they want to get to know you on a personal basis, learn your short term goals, your long term goals and from there they decide if you're a good basis for Ivey. Now, after that, once you get into Ivey, you're required to sending your resumé using a template and they are able to go over it to help you create a more specialized and more tailored resumé to make you stand as a candidate and then once you come into the program, as you get more experiences, you might have internships, you can have leadership opportunities. As things go on they take you through the process of creating a standardized Ivey template resumé that goes through, for example, your statements rather than using regular statements. You want to have a statement that there's a little bit of narrative but also hits the punch line with the results that you were able to get and so they're able to tailor your words and all the things that you need. In addition to that, they also let you go through a career leader and a career leader allows you to answer questions based on what it is that you like, what it is that you're interested in and suggest some areas and industries that you can go into. Of course, if you're not interested in those areas, you can move on to other things. But these are really good resources because I was able to find out areas that I didn't know existed previously, which I'm actually looking to pursue. And other than that you have regular classes in your first semester, who you are able to learn about, what are the messages that you send to people on LinekdIn? And how do you think people, what are some things that are necessary things networking? Um I would say one of my favorite things that I've experienced with the career services was when we had all the career coaches act out roles as though you were in a proper network and situations. So each person had a role. They spoke to you as though they've never seen you before as though they were the owners of the company or whatever role they were playing and you were able to jump through different zoom calls, talk to them, ask questions, learn how to engage other people under your group to ask questions, so you're not monopolizing the discussion. And this is just one of the many really important things. Outside of that, you also have one and long career sessions where you can sit down tailor the resumé if you need more help. Um you could also talk to them about networking if you need advice on career options to go through. They're obviously wonderful person and they're available pretty much every day. Um and you can sit down with them, you can also have the opportunity to mock interviews and they also provide you with AI recorded questions because obviously is we're in a virtual environment. It's most likely going to be the case that a lot of interviews are going to transition to videos before you actually have to sit down with someone. So that helps you build up on your skills. So it's really important. And I think another area that any student coming into Ivey would really appreciate is the fact that rather than focusing on just the big careers, they also have a diversified portfolio. So if you're looking into areas and industries are much more um niche and not as giant, for example as consulting or the financial investments, you're able to have someone who's focused on a diversified portfolio to take you through the different steps. So these are just a few of the things that you're able to get through the career services and if you need more things, you're more than welcome to talk to them to ask them. I think our classmates will benefit a lot from this and they are going to be winning and looking to how to create those things for you. So yeah, I hope to see all the Ivey and I hope you have a wonderful time when you do join.
