The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
I'm a second year student here in Florida Southern College, and I am originally from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. So I started my school search kind of Halfway through my junior year. The summer between my junior and senior year of high school. Um, but I wasn't really finding exactly what I wanted. That's what I assumed I was going to go in my entire life on then, my senior year of high school. I kind of switched things out, decided to go, um, the art route and kind of changed my major last minute. Um, I had an absolutely amazing time over scholars weekend, and the friends that I made there had a huge impact as to why I chose to end up coming. FSC. So I am now a film major with a triple minor in business administration's communications and advertising design. I came into the school thinking that I wanted to go into graphic design a someone who has not been artistic their entire lives. Um, it was a big jump, especially from the math and science route that I was originally planned on going with engineering. Um, and it kind of took me a little bit to find my footing. I was not used to the long hours in the art room is painting and drawing, and it really wasn't my cup of tea as you will. So one of my other friends that I had met over Scholars weekend introduced me to the film director on. We started talking, and I knew that film is kind of what I wanted to go into. I really wanted to be buying a camera, doing the editing and all that kind of fun stuff, making content I'd be will enjoy. I have absolutely loved my classes so far in the film program it has. I guess we don't necessarily have tests and quizzes, but instead we are expected toe, learn the knowledge and put it into our work. Of those final exams, there are still tests every once in a while, but usually it's taking the knowledge that you know and putting it back into what you're doing so that you're actually comprehending what you're learning in class and putting those skills to use immediately instead of learning the memorization of vocab or whatever I don't know are doing math calculations that potentially may never be used again. It's it's really fun because it's your learning what you're doing in class, and then you're immediately going out into the field and working on your projects and doing internships stuff. Working for a lot of the production comes around Lakeland, which is another big benefit of the film program. Are Professor knows a lot of people around Lakeland, and he is constantly in communication with them, getting students on set for small production, sometimes paid, sometimes not. Um, but really, it's just the through the experience that you get from going on set and learning these things that you may not be able to add other places. Um, so that's one of the big, huge positives of the film program here. I've been on set multiple times and have all kinds of great connections already around the Lakeland area with my professors especially, um, we've are very close, tight knit group of program majors majors in the program. You can jump right on that and help other students as well. Learn about something that you're really passionate about. With the pandemic this year, school classrooms looked a little bit different. Really? They had on campus students, they had commuter students, and then they had their remote students. Um, but those of us that were on campus or where community status could go into the classrooms. Um, not all classes were both remote and in person, but those that were, I think handled it very well. I know it was kind of difficult for people, especially for film majors. When you weren't on campus when you wanted, If we're doing, like, productions or something, we didn't necessarily have the equipment. So that kind of put all of our productions and video making on pause this semester. So we really got to focus on the nitty gritty we did. Um, one of my classes was screenwriting, So we we wrote a lot of scripts, and luckily, that's not something that needs to be done in glass. So that's one of the things that the professors did really well is kind of realize, like Okay, students don't like sitting on the zoom for hours and hours a day, Um, so when they would switch things up and maybe not hold classes or something, that was really kind of a relief to the students to kind of catch our breaths and focus on what we needed to do, especially in these times where everything is so up in the air. It's It's a crazy world right now, so having the professors realized that and work with us some more than others. Most professors here at FC will do whatever they need to to make sure that you are succeeding in the way that you hope to be succeeding really quick. Um, if you have any other questions about FSC, check out the other videos here on campus rails, check out YouTube. There's Facebook pages about FSC. So if you really have any questions, there's someone that can ask someone that you can ask and they will have the answer for sure.
