Meet Rowan! About Me and Why I Chose Florida Southern College
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
I'm Rowan, and I am a brand new content creator for campus rail. So since this is my very first video, it's mainly just going to be an introduction of who I am and where I go to school and a little bit about why I chose to go to school there. As I said before, I'm Rowan and I am an undergrad at Florida Southern College. You might be wondering, with the scenery behind me where I am right now, I'm actually not in Florida. I'm here for winter break and I'm going back to Florida Southern at the end of January for our spring semester. So when I'm not here in North Carolina on break, I do live as a residential student on campus and once I get back to campus, I will definitely be showing you guys around the dorms and my dorm room and giving you all kinds of tours like that. So get excited for that stay tuned way are going back in person in the spring instead of remote. Last semester we did sort of a hybrid where some students state remote and some came back, and I was lucky enough to come back in person in the fall. We're letting people choose whether or not they can come back. So we will have, I think about most of the student body will be back on campus in person, but we definitely still have some students doing remote learning as well. I'm also doing a minor in business administration, which is really interesting, and I'm also in the honors program, which means that I get access to a couple of fun perks that are only for honor students and I also get to do an honors project and thesis that I present at a big presentation called Fiat Lux in the spring of my senior year. Why did you choose Florida Southern College, and there's a bunch of different reasons why I chose it. I knew that I wanted to go to Florida from marine biology. So in that regard, the location was really important for the major that I was interested in in the career path that I'm hoping to go on. I also really wanted a college that was on a body of water. Have those parameters when you're looking at schools to be aware of what you really want to be there. So that was another reason just the location of Florida Southern was perfect for me. We're on like Hollingsworth, so we have beautiful lake views from wherever you are on campus. So FSC has about 2600 undergraduate students, and I knew that I wanted a school between about 6000 students. With a smaller school, you usually get a lot more focus on each individual student, and there's a lot more focus on the undergrad specifically, Um, so I knew that there would be a lot of good opportunities for me there, and I also really wanted that personalized experience. When I was choosing a school to go Thio, I also made sure to visit all of the schools that I was applying Thio because feeling the atmosphere of the school was really important for me. So when I visited for Southern, I took a tour as a lot of people do, and I met with my admissions counselor and I talked with some students on campus, and for me the atmosphere felt really good. One thing that really stood out to me when I visited as a high schooler on campus was that everything seemed possible at Florida Southern. Everyone at Florida Southern was willing toe work with me to achieve my goals and achieve my dreams, and that was really important and really encouraging. For me, another part of the atmosphere that is really important at Florida Southern is how involved everyone is, especially the students. There are so many different things that you can do on campus, from clubs to being an SDA or working in admissions and doing things like this or giving tours around campus and stuff like that. Really awesome because everyone can be involved in something and find something that they really want to do. So I have a lot of friends were involved in that in our on executive boards for their sororities or fraternities. It's also really good, and it gives us really good experience. As I said, I'm a marine biology and environmental studies double major, which means that I am very involved in the sciences on campus. I just want to talk briefly about the honors program. I might do a full video about this, too, especially if there's interest in it. The honest program at Florida Southern is pretty special. You do have to apply to get in, but I highly recommend doing it if you're interested. The honors program is this exclusive group of students. You get to meet a ton of new people who are across all disciplines, and you also get some perks, such as priority registration, which is super important for freshman and sophomore students. You have extended credit hours so honor students can take up to 20 credit hours miss semester, whereas other students can only take 18. You also get some special fun events just for honor students. So we have an honors board of students who work to have fun social activities and bringing special speakers, all kinds of things that are really interesting and really fun. Once again, I'm Rowan, and I'm looking forward to creating more videos for you.
