My name's Emily Cons and I'm the department had a special populations at a quality charter high school. I became a teacher because I love working with students and helping them reach their goals. I love how like, unique each of them is and how they each come with different strengths and weaknesses and working with them to achieve their goals. I love special education and working with special education students because each of them have different needs and it's when you figure out how to kind of teach them and work them through there, it feels like a real accomplishment and seeing that they feel that accomplishments within themselves is great. I started teaching saturday school when I came to the high school like five or six years ago because I felt like students needed more time and support outside of the classroom to be successful. So sometimes it just wasn't enough to do it during the week. So I started teaching saturday school as a credit recovery to help kids kind of move towards graduation quicker. I think Saturday school is special because a 15 or 16 year old does not have to come on a Saturday morning and a lot of places and a lot of schools they wouldn't come. When I see our kids show up to either do better in math or work on improving their essays are recovering credits. I feel like it's important for me to show up for them.
