Maria Tsiao - Why I chose USC
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
Hi everyone, my name is Maria Show and I'm currently a rising junior here at USC. I'm majoring in narrative Studies with a double minor in education policy and east asian languages and cultures. So back in high school when I was applying to colleges, I really wasn't sure what I wanted to major in. I remember just um going up and down like the different course lists and the different major options and seeing like, do I like the courses of this major offers? Like do I like the kind of like objectives that the um like program um that the program intended and Narrative Studies was eventually what I settled on because I went through the course list and was like, I kind of like all the classes that are offered in the program. I am able to take classes and like the School of Dramatic Arts, the School of Cinematic Arts, you know, other forms of storytelling and other mediums where I'm not necessarily limited by just, you know, literature and books and everything like that. So I think that's what made um you know, my major like stand out for me and for me to finally find kind of find clarity on like what I wanted to do, why I chose dornsife, like um you know, largely outside of my major as well, was also because of the interdisciplinary learning programs available. So I think my indecisiveness and interdisciplinary learning emphasizing joints, I kind of has a direct correlation with each other in that I was indecisive because I was interested in a lot of different fields. I was like I could see myself going down a bunch of different routes, but I'm not exactly sure what to like specialize in. I think with Dornsife the inter display learning, like the um you know, main premise of that is to really explore a lot of different fields because that holistic type of education it gives you like a really well rounded perspective about the world and you know, whatever academic field you're pursuing at the time.
