Jennifer Boone - Study Groups and Making Lifelong Friends
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
As I interviewed for the program, I was told time and time again that I would learn just as much from my classmates as I would for my professors and it felt a little intimidating because I thought, I'm not sure that I have that much to offer my classmates. But the unique lockstep nature of this program and the way that the administration really thoughtfully constructs study groups quickly help me build my confidence and introduced me to classmates that I don't really think I would have gotten the chance to know quite as well otherwise. So study groups are small groups of 4 to 5 people that the administration carefully puts together based on background and trying to fill in gaps so that you have a really well-known, well-rounded group. And my group was made up of two engineers, a chemist, someone with experience in marketing and private equity, and myself with sort of supply chain, nonprofit experience. And between the five of us, we were able to really well balance our workload and lean on each other and fill in gaps in our knowledge. And um, really became close friends throughout the years. The second year the study groups change and you get to meet a whole new group of people. So having this group of classmates to lean on and this group that brought such different strengths to the table was really part of what made my experience at the homes so great. On top of that, I met people from all different career paths, all different stages of life. And I often reached out to my classmates before I reached out to my professors, or the administration for career advice just because there was such a depth of experience within the 90 classmates in the program and then the friends that I made, I'm walking away from this degree with friends that have enriched my life so, so, so deeply. And my closest friends in the program are ages span three decades and I just don't know of any other experience where I would be able to be to have exposure to these types of really smart, driven, interesting people and where I would be able to make these types of friendships.
