I'm one of the in patient core faculty for the medicine residency and also one of the faculty advisers to the Rhyme Group, the residents interested in Medical Education. One of the things that the Ryan Group is involved in is the resident is teacher course, colloquially known as the Rat Course, which is an elective in our program that's now in its seventh year running, and it's offered three times per year. Typically, there's between eight and 15 residents enrolled in the course during the course. Residents have kind of an immersive soup to nuts experience in medical education in kind of three domains, one is kind of more didactic with active instruction. The second is hands on workshops, and then the third is practical experiences where they're immediately getting to practice and put forth some of the teaching and learning principles that they're learning during the course. Content includes areas such as adult learning theory, cognitive science of medical education, feedback and peer observation.
