Michelle - Favorite Things about MGH (2020-2021)
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
Similar to my med school experience, we have those additional courses that really bring that extra something. Some of the highlights have been when we met with lawyers who helped us think about how to care for our patients with immigration issues. We've met people from non profit organizations. We've had career panels, and most recently, we've had several balance groups, which I really love because I love thinking about relationships and medicine, the emotions and medicine and how it impacts us patients and families and just the whole dynamic. Most importantly, I found the family within the family. I think it was shortly after we matched here at MGH that one of my friends and co interns do docker. He made this P C fam WhatsApp group, and as soon as I saw that title, my heart just melted because that's exactly what I was looking for. The best thing was that I didn't have to create it, but someone else did, and someone else equally wanted that family. So I think probably to this day he doesn't even know how much of an impact that had on me. It was huge, and it was such a good way to start off the year. There are seven of us total in my year and then to global medicine residents who we worked pretty closely with, and we're all very, very different, and I want to do different things in primary care. Our schedules air created, such that were clustered throughout the year and have our outpatient time together so we can see each other at regular intervals both in the hospital and then hang out on weekends. We've definitely bonded a lot since residency started, and they're some of my closest friends in the program. Another thing that I love is when Jess are program director, it takes us out for breakfast, and it's a great time for us to ask her questions about the program or just chill and bond and eat really good food. Speaking of Jess, she's everything that you'd want in a program director and then something. She's approachable and kind and upbeat and really funny, and really just wants to make the program as useful as it can possibly be for us.
