Laura Sandoval (MBA 2021): A day in my life as an HBS MBA -2
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
Sometimes I haven't touched a case over the weekend, so I have to start from, you know, a first class. Other times, I'm a little ahead from that, and I start from class number three. If I plan on working out that day, or I change into regular clothes on, some people may laugh because, you know, classes air virtual Now, they were hybrid earlier in this semester, but now they're a little ther virtual. I have an interview room in the Spangler Center, which is one of the buildings on HBs. This campus and the little interview room is almost like my personal office, if you will, that I was granted the semester because my fiance, who is also an HBs student but took a leave of absence for the year he has an internship. It's best for me to not be here so that we're not, you know, hearing each other, speak while I'm in class or while he's gonna meet. Then I have a class called negotiations and I top it off with law management entrepreneurship. So it's nice to have a little breather room Thio Uh, you know, check my email going a phone call, call my family, my sister etcetera, um, or just knock off some things on my agenda. I'll tell you guys a little bit more about that and then hopefully ending my day at a reasonable time so that I have a decent amount of sleep ahead of the next day. Have my case here on AIPO. This is for my law management and entrepreneurship class. Um yeah, it's one of those days where I just wanna read in bed and be cozy, but yeah, the case today is actually about 11 pages longer. S so hopefully I get a few things out of it, but I have my highlighter handy and my pen to mark up some notes and be ready toe Make a comment in class Hopefully so I'll see you guys in a bit. Yeah, so I'm all dressed in my workout clothes since I do plan on working out today and now I'm ready toe head over thio class. Where I'll be taking my classes for the day e. So it's almost 10:30 a.m. Here before the start of my first class called Founders Journey. Um, so I'm in a little room outside of my apartment. Essentially, students were granted access to what are called interview rooms in case they wanted to take class in a space that was a little bit more private. So I typically spend the entire class time, I would say Monday through Friday, in here, in this in this interview room, just so I have that ability toe be as loud as I need to be and not have to disturb anyone. Essentially, this class goes over the different journeys, if you will, of the entrepreneur, the good, the bad, the stressful, all of that. Given that I am interested in pursuing a career in entrepreneurship, I figured this class would be really interesting to get some of those, um, you know, firsthand experiences shared from from founders that are HBs alum and not HBs lahm. We've had some really interesting speakers come to class. Um, just share a little bit about what they went through, and it made me do a lot of thinking, Um, and a lot of reflecting on, you know, uh, whether this journey is something that I would be fit for All in all really great class today we are presenting on Ted talks. So it'll be interesting to kind of get folks take on each other's Ted talks speak a little bit more broadly around the entrepreneurial journey. Um, as we get close to the near of the near end of the semester, Um, I then have negotiations at 12. 40 and then finishing my day of school work, essentially with 5 p.m. Meeting with my with my team members for my entrepreneurial finance class. Um, so yeah, my class starts in a minute, so I'll see you guys soon. So I just wrapped up my founders journey class and right after class, I went up to the second floor to pick up my coat test for the week. So here's kind of a little clue in of my to do list. I put little stickers on it to make it fun um, I have a little bit of time and a gap before my next class, So I'm likely going to start working on my paper for my building. Successful sustaining enterprises Class B S S C for short. I just need toe get the remaining parts completed, so I'll be spending some time working on that right now for my next class. So I just wrapped up my negotiations class and just to give you a little inside of you, Um, typically with my negotiations class, I was virtual today, But when things were in hybrid mode, there were days where I would show up in class and there'd be about 19 or so other students in classes well and we would get a topic and we'd have a case Essentially that we read the night before were assigned roles and then we're off toe negotiate. So my class has been really, really fun and I think has shown me some areas of strength, but also definitely some opportunity areas when it comes to negotiating. Just being able to self reflect a little bit on my own negotiating style and how I can improve upon that next class that I have coming up now and this class will start at 2 40 PM is my law management and entrepreneurship course and the case that we're reading today and kind of discussing in classes around I pose, so that should be pretty fun and pretty interesting. Between the end of my law management entrepreneurship class and the 5 p.m. meeting, I'll probably make myself a super super late lunch. Given that I've been in this little interview room for hours on end and, uh, and take it from there about to join my law class. I'm gonna click into it, and we typically pressed a little zoom button to join, so I will see you guys soon. So I finished my law management and entrepreneurship class, and now I am finally back home. Eso have been doing some research, if you will there and spending some of my days just, um, looking up different companies. Um yeah, so I'm gonna work on that for a little bit before I go ahead and join the rest of my team for our group call for our entrepreneurial finance class. We got some great progress done on our final project for entrepreneurship finance class. So we have toe do right up essentially, um, on the company and answer a few financial questions related to the company and then submit our assignment.
