Want Be an Athlete at Denison?
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
I'm from Maryland, Massachusetts, and I am a goalie on the women's varsity lacrosse team. Every part of being an athlete on campus has enhanced my experience here. There are so many reasons that I love playing at Dennis in one of those being that we're a D three school, but we're a competitive D three school. So what I mean by that is, as a D three athlete, I'm not married to my sport. My team just finished in the top 25 ranked teams in the nation, which is incredible. We worked really hard for it, but that's not the only thing that we were cardiac on campus. Um, that being said, leasing into my next point, um, we are all student athletes, so academics always come before athletics on Denison's campus. Every athlete on our at our school will tell you the same thing. Yes, while we take our athletics very seriously and we work hard at practice, your academics are always more important. So if you're struggling in school and something isn't going well, or something comes up is mandatory for a class will always take precedent over athletics. So if anybody on the team comes to them that they're struggling with school or comes them saying they have a mandatory meeting during practice time, they're always willing to accommodate in any way that they can. So we are committed to our team and we show up to practice. If academics become priority, that is the way it goes, which is something I really appreciate because we're at school to get an education. So I am super appreciative of the fact that they will always prioritize academics over athletics. I am an athlete, but I am so much more than that campus. I have two jobs, so I am a tour guide on campus and I work in the varsity weight room, and I also involved in Greek life. So being an athlete on Denison's campus means that you can continue that athletic career and have the thirst for competition that I'm sure many of you feel. There's so much more to being on being a student athlete here that I think is really beneficial in something that I am super. I feel super lucky to be a part of, um, another thing that goes hand in hand with that is studying abroad. So every athlete on campus, unless you play winner sport like basketball or swimming, gets the opportunity to go abroad. So not all schools can say that it's something that I was definitely looking forward during my college search because to me abroad is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It's a time to learn through experience is and I am super excited to be a part of it. Most of our students travel abroad there junior year. So hopefully this coming year, I get to go abroad and I'm very, very excited about it. Um, and it's something your coaches and courage, which doesn't always happen. If you want to go abroad, it's encouraged, and a vast majority of the members of my team choose to go abroad, which is very exciting. So that's something I love about Dennis in and something that I'm super excited to take advantage of. Um, and lastly, I think I'll talk about my experiences with the coaching staff at Denison. So I live fire away from home so it adds when I'm at school. So it's incredible for me to have a support system like that. I can come to them about frustrations with the cross or like amazing feelings about lacrosse. Or it can come to them with frustrations about light, frustrations about school or, like, just want to share something fun. They've led us to be one of the top teams in the nation, and they're incredible. Personally, they've done a lot for me and have been a huge support system for me at school. All of those sports use different muscles, and he takes that into consideration and hand writes workouts for every single team, which is incredible. Um, and we also have our training, our trainers or athletic trainers. Our athletic trainers have become our friends. Some of us that are injured see them quite often, so we build relationships with them and they want t they they want to see it succeeded almost the same amount as we D'oh! So they work hard to make us better. So not everyone on campus gets to see them is just the athletes. So if you have something wrong that you need help with their there for you and we have like a team trainer, So Gina is our team trainer. Those people around me that want to see me succeed not only on the field but in the classroom and adjusted life in general is incredible. I just feel so blessed to be an athlete a Dennis in, so I can't recommend it enough, and I can't speak more highly of it.
