Denison University- the Pros and Cons
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
I'm a senior at Denison University, where in studying art, history, visual culture and environmental studies. So the 1st 1 location, location, location here at Denison, we have the benefits of both small town Granville and being close by to Columbus, which is my numbers are correct, the 14th largest city in the U. S. So you have the perks of small town, really close neighbors, a great community, small local businesses, all while still being within driving distance of Columbus, where you can go shopping, go out to eat, see, shows sporting events in anything like that, definitely a big pro. Being from a bigger city myself, I know I was a little bit wearing about it first, So for some, it might be a con, but it's something that you kind of find the silver lining in. Next thing is that they're so many ways to get involved in so many things to do on campus. You always stay busy, so definitely a pro and kind of works with the location thing again. You don't really remember that you're in a smaller town when campus feels so global, we like to say, but at the same time, with so much going on, you know you have a lot on your plate and it's kind of hard to say, but you can't do it all. That's something that I had a hard time with, and I think that some students struggle with is well, is we want to do everything we can. There's just not enough time in the day, and then the liberal arts and general education system that we, you know, uphold it. It's a pro that you get at some other liberal arts schools to just because of the format. I think we're pretty special here, and you get to try so many new things both academically and outside of the classroom. I think the no really cool part is you're confined to just one major. You expand your academic world, view your horizons, and you end up being a way better and more well rounded academic At the same time you are gonna get pushed outside of your comfort zone. You know, you're getting to try new things. I might still call that a con, But again, I do still see that you're trying to things. You're gonna be more well rounded, and in the end you might discover something you really love. We mentioned it a little bit, but with the size, you know, we're a smaller school. It's great because it means you make friends really easily. You're always meeting new people and you get to know good population of the student body. I just like to tell people I was late on my very first date, a class, something not usually that ideo, but I was stopping and saying hi to so many people meeting these great new friends that, you know, I had to kind of stop along the way. They ask how your day's going and they really want to know, And that's just something you get at a small school with a great community like ours. At the same time if you're coming from a larger school, that can be a bit of an adjustment. Especially, you know, your high school is even bigger than Denison's 2500 student body. Um, you're seeing the same people all the time. You want a little bit of the anonymity that comes with a bigger school. I think we're still big enough that they're always meeting new people. You know, you kind of always have the chance to reintroduce yourself. We have smaller class sizes, which means we have a great relationship with the professor's. It goes beyond just the average class size of 19 and the 9 to 1 student professor ratios. Professor's really get to know you is a student, and it's not just because of the small class size, though it's because we have professors that really care. The one little problem with that is that you can't really get away with slacking off, not turning in your homework. They're gonna know you and know when you're not turning things in. You know, maybe that means you're gonna have to push yourself a little bit harder. If you're thinking about Dennison, it's because we know you already excel in the academics. The last thing is that campus is just absolutely beautiful. If you've been to campus before, you can agree with me. You know, I saw Snow for the first time in a long time when I was there, and I'm odd every full at the leaves, changing colors. It really is that picture perfect campus we love every minute of it. You're going uphill to class both ways, um, and get a little bit chilly in the winter. The only way to know what it's like to be here is to experience it for yourself. Everyone spends their four years differently, and my favorite parts, the campus might not be the same if someone else's the one thing we can all probably agree on Denison's a pretty special place for all of us.
