My name is Shanice Douglas and I am a student at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. I'm a second year student in the mph program with an emphasis in urban health disparities. I'm also a non matriculating student taking some physics and organic chemistry classes so I can sit for the M cats which is one of the perks about being at CTU Like not only do you get to specialize or choose your your area of interest but you can also um take other courses that are part of other programs. As a non matriculating student, I enrolled into the masters in public health um again with an emphasis in urban health disparities and I started in the summer of 2020 and it's been go go go every since this is actually our first semester in class but it's still that same warm welcoming environment. Um And it's nice to actually see each other in person and at this point we all have to be covid vaccinated, flu vaccinated. So that's very warming to know that we have these levels of security. So my best friend who is a physician now told me that she wished that she would have went to a school and obtained her Master's before she became a physician because she said that there was so much, she didn't realize that she didn't know. Um and I myself being a part of the Master's program and I'm now realizing that I knew that there were racial and ethnic health disparities, but I didn't know the extent and I couldn't give you the background in the core to these inequities, but now I can now I can tell you why and how these things happen and how we can address them and challenge the institutions and structures that have allowed this to be, you know, um in that history behind all of this. So the excellence and the outstanding, you know, education and all of these things that city requires only for your betterment. Because in order to challenge what what's history you have to be solid and knowledgeable and what we learned that was what led me to apply.
