My name is naive and I'm a second year nursing major here at Adelphi. I live approximately half an hour away from Adelphi, so I'm a commuter student because of Covid. I'm taking majority of my classes at home, but I have one class on Friday and I'm so so happy. I gotta be back on campus and see my classmates, my peers, my friends. I bring a unique perspective to the table, as I am actually a transfer student. If I did amazing job in the transfer process, connecting me to so many different people, making the process is timely and as efficient as possible. Transfer admissions counselor with my high school AP research What he saw that I was his transfer student. He was so welcoming, emailed me and told me it was a pleasure to work with me. If I wanted to go meet him on campus, just catch up and talk and to ask them any questions that I may have. So my best friend from high school actually went to Delphi Ide. She met close knitted friends, and she's also the swim team, so she was able to have that connection with upperclassmen who guided her through the process of freshman year. I actually visited her in my freshman year in college. The minute I stepped on campus, I felt this sense of connection, this warmth and belonging that I didn't get on my other campus. For my caption, I put committed, question mark and, ironically, a year later. I'm so happy that that is where my life has brought me. I really, really, really believe in the quote that everything happens for a reason. One of the things that I love without Adelphi its diversity. So even though it's a predominantly white institution, it is becoming a Hispanic serving institution. Um, my other school that I attended was predominantly white, but it was very homogeneous about Adelphi was that it was more diverse and it was people from different social economic status. Is different backgrounds, different Home life's different high school is really nice to get that interaction because, essentially, that's the real world. Another thing that drew me to Delphi was the nursing program. Before transferring to Delphi, I was in the physician assistant program, but I decided that nursing is what I wanted to do. When I was researching schools that were close to home, I found at Delphi Delphi Nursing Program was just landed number fifth in the state and the top 15% nationwide, which is amazing. They have the top match simulation lab that when I got a tour of campus, I fell in love with. It was so cool, and I can't wait to start my clinical as next semester. It's so amazing because it allows nursing students to practice their skills and get comfortable before we actually practice on real patients. Obviously, you don't want to be dealing with patients for the first time without knowing what you're doing. My best advice is to create a solid connection with professors and your peers. It may feel a little bit uncomfortable at first to reach out and just put your name out there, but I'm telling you, whatever you put in is what you get out. I was generally nervous to apply the clubs to talk to my professors. I have made such amazing connections, and I have had such fantastic opportunities on campus because I took that step and overcame my fear.
