Explore Columbia in Other Parts of NYC
Columbia has a dynamic relationship with the Upper West Side of Manhattan (where the main campus is) as well as with Harlem (where two of its other campuses are). The University provides a lot for the communities, but it also pushes individuals out of the communities which have already been established by gentrifying the areas that it develops. There is a tension that is palpable in the community as you walk north into Harlem. Columbia is building a new campus in the Manhattanville area of Harlem, about ten blocks north from the main campus. In this video I show a little bit of the new campus as well as the med school campus.
