Applicant must be a high school student who is able to write a three- to five-minute essay on an annual patriotic theme and record it on a good-quality audio cassette or CD. Selection is based upon delivery, originality, and content.

Applicant must create a research project based on some aspect of Missouri archaeology and submit a proposal.

Applicant must be enrolled at the University of Missouri at Columbia. Selection is based upon portfolio, three letters of recommendation, and financial need.

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA (minimum 3.5 GPA in political science). Preference is given to a student from southwest Missouri with a rural background.

Applicant must receive a number one rating in the district Junior Academy of Science competition. Selection is based upon class rank, test scores, and a paper.

Applicant must be enrolled in the College of Natural and Applied Science and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Extracurricular activities are considered.

Applicant must have placed in the top ten in the southwest Missouri FFA contest.

Applicant must be a graduate of Clever High School and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Applicant must graduate in top 15 percent of their high school class with a 3.0 GPA and financial need.
