Meet Zoe!

I am a second year student at Whittier College, and today I'm going to be sharing a little bit about myself and about why I chose Whittier. This year, I am serving as the inner club council president. The Inter Club Council essentially oversees all clubs and organizations on campus and serves as a space to facilitate conversations between these clubs and organizations. Um, we help fund different events at each of the individual clubs do, and I also have a seat on the Senate table with that position. I am a member of the modern United Nations Club, the College Choir. I am an active member of the Athenian society, which is kind of similar to Greek life but local to Whittier College, which I think is pretty cool. I'm actually also helping to start a service organization with some friends. The last couple of years, I've been able to work on campus as well, so last year I served as an admissions ambassador tour guys. This year I am working as a orientation leader and currently as a poet intern for the religious studies department. So I am originally from northern Pennsylvania in a small town called Hillsborough. This past summer I actually moved from Pennsylvania to Sacramento, California My parents are originally from here, and so they wanted to move back here. That's actually kind of part of the reason why I was looking for colleges across the country. Why would you became one of the contenders when I was applying for schools during my stay in New York high school? Mhm. So during my senior year, I applied to about 15 schools. I think half of them are on the East Coast, half around the West Coast. My main thing was that I wanted a very, very big school because growing up in small town, I was like, I'm tired of it. I received a few waiver, and so I just said, Why not? And I added it to my list. Um, I originally thought it was just going to be a back of school, But then, as I was looking and doing more research at all the different schools I was being accepted to, I realized we do have a lot to offer some of those top things. I noticed that here has one of the best small United Nations teams in the country. This was very surprising to me because it's such a small school. As I was looking through their alumni and their records, I saw that there's actually a lot of alumni who end up going to work for organizations like the United Nations or the U. S. State Department all across the country all across the world. It was very cool for someone who knew that they wanted to go into politics or international relations. Another thing I noticed was that we're here actually has some benefits to it being smaller, one of them being that first year and second year students are allowed to apply for fellowships and research study opportunities with faculty and staff. That's something that I do not see at many other institutions, especially the bigger ones. I just thought that it would be a great opportunity for me and for other students, because that's a way to really work on networking and building connections within the fields were interested in going into. Thank you all so much for taking the time to listen to my experience out with your college and a little bit about why it's so special to me. I hope that you all are able to watch some of the other videos that I post in the future and that you consider coming to Whittier.
