Choosing Whittier College-Samantha Maldonado
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
My name is Samantha Maldonado, and I'm currently a first year at Whittier College. Today I'm just going to be doing a little introduction about myself and the reasons why I chose Woodier. Actually, I was born and raised in the city of Woodier, so the wooden college campus is literally right in my backyard. Why did I actually choose to go to Whittier College? I mean, I knew a lot about the Whittier community, but did I know a whole lot about the Whittier College campus and the variety of programs that they offer? The short answer is no. So that's when I started my research where all the Whittier College research begins on the college website. They offered all the clubs they had on campus, which is over 70 and, of course, the class ratio. I was worried about being stuck at a big college and a big auditorium with 100 plus kids, and I would never get the opportunity to meet my professor. At Whittier College, the student ratio is 12 to 1. So even from Zoom, I've had so many opportunities to connect with my professors, either in class or through office hours. Now that I knew all this information, we are caused really starting to appeal to me. So I applied to Whittier through their early action application, and I got in. Now I'm a first year at college, and in my first year I've learned a lot. College is a real responsibility, and as the first generation college student, it was kind of hard at first to navigate through the whole college system. One thing about Whittier is that they do offer a lot of resources for their students cast, which is the center for advising and academic success to the Health and Wellness Center. It's really easy to connect with other Whittier college students, whether it be through class, on campus or even through social media. Even now, as I work for the Office of Admissions as a campus ambassador, I have met so many people who are not only dedicated students but great leaders on campus, and I just want to end this video by saying, Even though my first year at Whittier has been a bit different than others, I really feel that I've been able to utilize all the resources that they provide their students. I've definitely enjoyed each and every class that I've taken so far and what your college offers the right learning environment for me to thrive in. I'm excited for you to be a part of this community, too.
