Why I Chose Owen & Program Breakdown
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
Today I just wanted to tell you a little bit more about Owens program and what ultimately made me choose Owen so again to give you some background on myself. I was a medical social worker in a hospital prior to coming to business school, and I knew I wanted to stay in the health care industry but move into kind of more of a management or operations role. So all the business schools that I was looking at, they had some sort of health care, concentration or specialization. I was also looking at schools that offered a dual MBA mph. You know, if they didn't have, ah, MBA specific health care concentration. Um, but you know what ultimately made me come toe Owen is Nashville is such a hub of health care, and I had never experienced the South before after living in the Northeast my whole life. So I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to not only build my network, but potentially, you know, start working in a new region of the U. S. After graduation, Owen has eight different concentrations that you can choose from. So I am doing a dual concentration in both health care and operations and analytics. I definitely like I said, I want to stay in the health care industry and I was actually fortunate enough to already secure my summer internship for next year. So I will be working at DaVita, which is a dialysis provider. You know, it was a great opportunity for me because I had worked with kidney transplant patients before and the majority of them were on dialysis. So I was working very closely with dialysis facilities in the Northeast region already eso next summer. Like I said, I'll be with DaVita on Ben after hopefully, if I get a full time offer from them, it will move me into an operations role. So what that will look like is I will first be managing one dialysis facility and then after that, if I were to move up to a regional operations director role, I would be managing 10 facilities and like I said, I love this job opportunity because it will keep me connected to the renal population, and it is precisely what I was looking for in terms of getting that operational background learning how to manage a big team, manage patient expectations and patient care. I just loved the emphasis that DaVita puts on its culture not on Lee taking care of its patients but taking care of its employees as well. One thing that made me choose Owen over other schools is their emphasis on personal scale and their small class size. So it's one thing toe read about it and to hear from current employees and to hear from current students. Actually being here now halfway done through my first year, it's truly incredible to see the time and effort, um, that the faculty make toe really make sure that you succeed and thio make you feel at home. I can't even tell you the amount of times professors will hold extra office hours and, you know, make their cell phone and personal email available. It makes you feel at home and makes you feel comfortable asking questions, even if you don't feel comfortable asking them in the classroom as someone who has no business background whatsoever. This aspect was so important to me when choosing a school, I knew I didn't want to get lost in a sea of hundreds of students and the fact that my professors know me by name and again, like I said, they're always willing to help out in whatever way they can. It just makes this experience a lot smoother and a lot more supportive for me. So I hope this video helped to give you some insight into Owen's program and what makes this program so special until next time, take care.
