Intro to Caitlin from Vanderbilt MBA
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
My name is Caitlin, and I am a first year MBA student at Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management. I grew up in Massachusetts on the beach on Cape Cod, but I spent the last 12 years in Philadelphia. I did my undergrad at Penn, where I studied health and societies, and it was actually during that time that I thought that I wanted to pursue my MBA to go into health care management. Around my junior year of college, I got a little sidetracked volunteering with a nonprofit group who helps people who are experiencing homelessness. Instead, I went back to Penn after taking a year off to work for that non profit. During my masters, I got to intern in a prison in North Philadelphia and then in the hospital, which is where I eventually worked for the next five years. The last 2.5 years of that was spent with the kidney transplant team, and that's when the idea of going back for my MBA really came back onto my radar. I kind of realized that I could make a bigger impact on the health care world. If I was in a management position and the MBA seemed like the appropriate next step, I'm currently concentrating in health care as well as operations and analytics. What's great about Owen is that they have eight different concentrations that you can choose from. Teoh, a bunch of other embassies and specialization so you can really customize your education toe what you're looking for. My class has 182 students, and about 30% of those students are female. Because the classes so much smaller than a lot of other business schools, you really get to know your classmates and your faculty on a more personal scale, which is what Owen is famous for. Owen is right in the heart of downtown Nashville, so there's a bunch of really fun bars and restaurants and places to get a quick bite to eat between classes, and also there are a bunch of apartment buildings right around campus, so it makes it really easy to get to and from class, as well as to link up with your classmates to do group work or whatever you guys to have going on that week as someone who grew up in the Northeast my whole life. I can tell you, I never expected to end up living in the South. After only being here a few months, I really feel comfortable and really feel that home. I'm excited to tell you more about my experience with Owen and what made me choose Owen.
