The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
My name is vera escada highs and I'm here today to introduce myself. Let you know why I chose UVM before I get into some other videos about the Burlington area uh and all that good stuff. Um um But first off again, my name is vera, I'm a junior right now or rising junior setting, psychological science and with a minor in gender, sexuality and women's studies. When I'm not doing school work, I'm giving tours on campus, making videos talking to prospective students. I've also been a residential advisor, so an R. A. On campus, which has been really fun. I've also done semester in the city programs heading over to boston uh and doing some internship work There with nonprofits including 8- six Boston. I was actually, I like to say that I was born on campus because I was born in the hospital. Um the U. V. A. Medical center, One unique thing about me is that I actually grew up speaking three languages. My story kind of starts out with that fact that I was born on campus. Uh and when I say that UVm is home to me, I genuinely mean that it's home by the fact that my mom is actually a faculty member here at UVM and I started going to her classes when I was like five, a young college student. Uh but for mother's day, stuff like that, I would go and visit her classes, sit in the background and I really was integrated in the system. So when I reached high school, I really wanted to leave though. I think everybody gets to a point where they want to leave home. The last thing they want to do is go to college Uh, in the place that they grew up in, right. What I did actually in high school is that I snuck into one of the club fares. So UVM has something called activities fest that happens every single year where our clubs, we have over 200 different clubs. I really saw UVM in a different lens after that. I saw that there were a lot more opportunities than I had thought originally. I just saw it as a different world within my own home. Um after touring it as well, I finally enrolled and I really was able to find all those different experiences. I found all these amazing opportunities that I didn't even know you've even had and I met people from all around the world and I was really taken outside of my comfort zone which I didn't expect being at home. It was as if I was on this other planet but still close to my family. So at the V. M. I was able to kind of create that sense of home but also that that sense of good discomfort really like studying everything. Uh Just like that sense of home and also that sense of opportunity and excitement. Now I'm involved in a bunch of different stuff at UVM studying everything I possibly can. So that's a little bit about why I chose UVM. Um, I hope you continue watching some of my videos. I'll probably be taking you with me downtown to the Burlington area. I'm currently off campus and just also giving some advice about my own experience and maybe even interviewing some friends.
