Now I want to preface this by saying that at UVM, our average class sizes around thirty students and the student faculty ratio is about eighteen toe one, meaning that for every eighteen students there is one faculty member ready and willing to support and engage our student population. Now, just because I say that thirty students is our average class size, there are always found to be some outliers in some exceptions, that being said at U. V. M, we have various styles of classes, which means they take place in various different classroom environments. We have seminar style classes, which are smaller, more intimate, writing intensive programs that allows students to engage closely with the students in the class as well as the faculty that air there. Typically, in my experience, I have out about fifteen to twenty students in the seminar classes, sometimes even less. We have general classroom settings as well where students could be joined by around thirty to forty to fifty two, sometimes sixty other peers of theirs. There is usually a blackboard, a chalkboard or a whiteboard at the front of the space, and that is how professors engage with their students on. You might have had an experience like what you can expect in our classrooms here at U B M in your high school or wherever you're coming from. Regardless of the format of our classrooms and class environment here at U. B M R faculty members, staff, teaching assistants and other students really do ensure that our community members and students feel supported, engaged and challenged in their classes here at U. B A. Now, as our classes get larger and more popular, there tends to be a need to put students in a larger space. Thes con's sometimes have anywhere between one hundred and fifty, two hundred and fifty up to around three hundred students. In our largest lecture Hall now, just because it's a large class and there are a lot of students and in the same room, that doesn't mean that the professors members aren't going to want to engage at a personal level with their students. They encourage it because there are so many students in the same room. As long as students are taking the initiative to get to know their faculty members, there are other students teaching assistance and whoever might be in that class. Now The classroom here at U. B M is not the be all end all when it comes to learning. UVM is called an academic ecosystem for a reason. Every corner of this university has an opportunity for students to learn something new and to better their experience not only as a student but as a human being. There are opportunities for students to engage in wildlife, fish and other aspects of ecology in our centennial woods on Lake Champlain and in other natural areas here in Vermont. There are also ways right on campus that students can engage with their surroundings and learn something.
