When we met in Episode one, I mentioned the trio Student support services and how they how much they have helped me and my growth is a student. So today we will look at what is trio student support and what can they do for you? A student support services program has been an integral part of my development as a college student has provided me with the community in a family that I could depend on what I needed. The trio program provides support services to low income students, first generation college students and disabled students enrolled in postsecondary education programs in their first two years. After your first two years, you should have grown enough to manage your task day to day. You could become a mentor like me, and this gives you the opportunity to pay it forward and really show how much the trio program could do for students. Every time that I walked through the door of the trio office, there's a greeting smile and a handshake for me. They're just uplifting words from the people that work there. The goal of the student support services is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants, and it really does that. It helps students make that transition from one level of higher education to the next. So not only does trio help students overcome financial barriers to higher education, thes awesome programs help students overcome social and cultural barriers.
