The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
This video is going to be my recommendations of what to bring and what not to bring to college. This video is to help you start to think about packing what you should bring, what you maybe shouldn't bring, what you need. So keep watching this video to hear about my recommendations for what to bring and what not to bring as a first year incoming student at ST Michael's college. Okay, so just claim before we get started, all this advice, this whole what to not bring and what to bring to school is based on my own personal experiences. First on the do not bring list are multiple appliances such as toasters. I'd just like going to the dining hall instead. Um, but bring things like a microwave for, I like microwave mac and cheese. There's simply not enough space and you're just not gonna wear long. Um I do recommend making it feel homey because you are gonna be living there at least in your first year dorm for a year but I would recommend keeping it simple. So there's really just not a point in bringing a ton of kitchen stuff unless you need it for some other reason. So you're gonna have to wash your dishes in the bathroom sinks which isn't terrible, but it's also just kind of a pain. So I recommend if you have like canned soup or something that you're gonna wanna make in the microwave, bring like one or two maybe of like everything out to 11 bowl of one plate, one fork spoon knife. Because you're not gonna wash them all the time and you're gonna be eating in the dining hall all right, next is laundry baskets. Do not bring tide pods unless you use them all the time. Alright flipping switches now it's time for the two brings. I got one set of bed risers before my first year of college and I did not end up using them my first year because my bed frame went all the way up to the ceiling so I could already lost my bed hofer. The bed frame was pretty typical like a short normal bed so I couldn't locked it. I had to use my bed risers to give myself more space underneath my bed. So I recommend getting bed risers because it gives you more storage space under your bed. I mean bring a lot of hangers, you're not gonna have hangers in your closet, you have to bring your own. Um I thought a really good idea is to bring an inner closet wall or door shoe hanger that hangs on the inside of your door or one vertical one that you can hang off of the bar in your closet because that gives you a lot more vertical space and you're saving a lot of the floor space. So you definitely want to bring a couple extra storage options for yourself. You're probably gonna have like one or two outlets in your first year doormats a mix. You know, you're gonna have all these things to plug into all the electronics we have. So bring a power strip because that gives you, you know, like 10 different plug ins you can use at once and also bring extension cords because first of all the power strips, the cords of them are short, so they're not going to go that far. So definitely bring some power strips, some power extension cords and even like outlet splitters, if you I have one that you plug into the outlet, but the part that comes out of the wall has three outlets on it. So bring stuff like that to maximize your outlet space because you're gonna need it. Four, I recommend you bring like a desk lamp or a small light that you can have over your bed. I did not bring one of these my first year and it was very hard to do work at night because I had to have the big light in my room on. So I definitely recommend bringing a little desk lamp, a little stationary, like the clip on the edge of your bed, something to give you a little extra light at night where you can see just your space that you can do your work um without disturbing anybody else. You really don't need, like five towels, you're not gonna use them all. It depends on how often you shower and then you wash them, So you're not going to be like six towels, it's a waste of space and you're not going to use them and then you're gonna need two pairs of bedsheets. Also you're gonna want to shower caddy probably one that hangs up. Finally the last item that you should bring to college is some out of season close. I mean some like one or two things because when you move in in the summer it's going to be hot, you know, it's gonna be hot and sunny day or shorts and tank tops and whatever. On the off chance we're in Vermont so it may rain, it may get cold at night, so you're gonna want like one some warm clothes. You're not just gonna be wearing shorts and t shirts and tank tops for like two months. It's easy if you want, you can ship your clothes from home like when it gets cold or if you live close you can go home on your breaks to get your other winter clothes, but you're gonna want something warm, some other weather close with you when you move in that you have them. Even like a little teeny hat and some gloves just in case because you don't want to be caught in that first cold day or that first. So I recommend bringing some types of other season clothing when you move into school. That is my recommendations for what you should and should not bring to college your first year.
