My name's Qena, Courtney and I'm a senior here at ST Michael's College. I'm from Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, and I'm a double major in elementary education and psychology with an endorsement in early childhood. Keep watching to learn all about ST Michael's College, and I'll show you some of my favorite places on campus. State mixes a liberal arts college, which means you'll have ample opportunities to explore all different types of majors of courses here at ST Mike's, whether you've decided you're major or not, and that could be within the arts or within the sciences. We are a Catholic institution, and what that means is that were founded by the Edmund Ites today on campus, you can see the values of the Edmund ites still instilled in our college and in our campus today, such as an act of service, social justice and education. Something important to note when looking at ST mixes that you do not have to be Catholic to attend our college. Anyone with all different faiths and beliefs are welcome. When I was looking at colleges in high school, I knew that I wanted a small school not in the middle of the city s O. From there, I could kind of narrowed down my options. So I knew I wanted a school with a great education program. One thing that really helped me decide that state mix was a school for me is when I took a tour on campus, Um, I took a tour and it was just me, my mom and the tour guide. Um, ST Mike's had pared the tour guide as someone who would relate to me, someone who is an education major, also from a small high school. That really helped me get a perspective of what may be my life could look like at ST mixes. Well, the tour guide talked to me just like we are good friends. It wasn't just like boring facts being listed off, eh? So that's why I want to do a campus real to help you guys see what it could be like if you came to ST Mix. One of the most important things for me when I was looking at a college is that I wanted it to be a really close community. I wanted to know my students in my classes and my peers. I didn't just want to be a face in a lecture hall, and I really got that here at ST Mix. Professors here really want to know you, and they want to get to know us students as people, as valued members of the community. They work really hard to support you in all aspects of your time. Unlike when I've ever seen before, back home at other colleges pretty much anywhere I've ever been before. We look out for each other, and that's something that I really wanted to see in a college. Here at ST Mix, you can make friends to the most unusual situations. You can meet them in classes in the dining hall club meetings. Um, you really just have to put yourself out there, and through their you'll meet a lot of great friends and people you can count on for the rest of your life. So now I want to show you one of my favorite places on campus. This is our teaching garden within the teaching garden. We have a Children's literature garden, as you can see, called the Books and Bloom, which features plants from a bunch of our favorite story books. Another cool feature, as you'll see, is the movable words etched onto pieces of stone scattered around, which allows passer Byers to create their own poetry in our word garden. Many of my education classes have used this space, but all different classes and majors have spent time in the teaching garden, so you can see it's a great place for professors. It's a nice spot to get some fresh air and work on some homework. This spaces right outside of our academic buildings, which makes it a nice location to take a break between classes. Stay tuned to learn all about all the great things that state mix has to offer.
