Engineering Building and Research Opportunities
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
Most importantly for this, like little Plaza here we have the engineering building, and this building is a school for a number of reasons. So this building is one of the newer buildings on campus. It really got that kind of, you know, modern academic five. This is, oddly enough, where a lot of my philosophy classes are there in the basement. Don't worry where they're talking down where they should be. It's a huge push for wanting research, more research to be done for coming from this institution. So there's a lot of grants, a lot of money and a lot of opportunities. Kind of being thrown a Portland State right now to do research of all kinds. Now I do public health, which is way more social and behavioral, but there are almost no bounds. Did this research those air? All Portland State students who got money or at least the opportunity to do this Research. I guess I don't know this for certain policing. The key doing research is that it has to be something that you really care about that you're interested in. I think that Portland State is one of the best places because they're they're mission right now is toe output research begin producing this kind of stuff. If you're really passionate about, I hate to use the sport again. If you're really passionate about researching something, you could probably find an opportunity to do so in Portland State. Okay? What, You're interested in doing a research? It? No. You know, play. You get good at writing and you got to get good at asking for money. That's but don't make it sound like you're asking for money. Researching sounds really important and like it would be a really, really good thing for the school to investing. It's all about making the truth sound better than it is and more truthful than you wanted to. Because the people who are asking me to do this video want me to talk about the teacher student relationship because the lighting here is really good. Because I think that this next point is important. I'm still here and still talking, so I've had a lot of philosophy. Class is here in the engineering building, and this is also the hub of a lot of hard science research, and that's a taboo term. My point is there are a lot of students, Europeans, you and so making those faculty connections can be a real challenge because professors aren't going to reach out to you because there's so many students keep track of. You should go to Professor's office hours if you're interested in what they're teaching or if you need extra help or if you have questions on DH that is to me the best place to begin building a relationship with the professors of the Bacon. Better understand where you're at and perhaps point you in the direction the best meets you. A PS you that I've struggled with the most because I'm I'm busy going to Professor's office hours and building those relationships. It's not something I've made a priority, and that's, you know on me. I also want to talk a little bit about what's called imposter syndrome. It's something we discussed at the research program that I'm a part of. Though those air surrounded with May have, you know, higher degrees and more experience. You know, there might be the occasional professor or boss, whatever who you know sees an undergrad is like, but that's not That's not ninety percent of my home. Um, yeah, recognizing when you feel like you don't belong in a room and recognizing when you feel lesser than is important because it can both drive. You, too, want to achieve more, but it's also important because once you recognize it, you can begin a cognitively overcome it. That's one of the most important parts about growing is recognizing where you are being proud and happy of that and then making goals to move forward. That kind of mindset, I think, is the best one to approach. I would say college with Middle East Portland, say with Yeah, and it's a good step personally to hit. We may encourage you to build faculty connections, which our challenge here at St. Anyway. This is the engineering building, which well, it's the basement.
