Campus Reel Intro-Parker University
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
Hi, everyone. My name is Brooks, and today we're going to talk about why I chose Parker University for chiropractic school. And I'm also going to tell you all some more details about it. So, come on, let's go inside. Okay, so we are in my room, and I wanted to come here because this is where I spend the most time throughout my day studying, of course, because I am an all online tri one student at Parker University in their doctor of chiropractic program. But, first I wanted to start off by just introducing myself. So, again, my name is Brooks, and I'm really, really excited and hope that I could give you some insight into what it's like to be a student of chiropractic at Parker University. All right, let's get into it. I graduated from Texas A & M University in May, and I graduated with a degree in kinesiology applied exercise physiology. Now, it wasn't always that way. I actually started off as a business major, but once I decided I wanted to be a chiropractor, I quickly made the switch to kinesiology. And I chose that degree for a few reasons. One, because it really piqued my interest, but mainly because I actually reached out to quite a few chiropractic schools that I was interested in at the beginning. And they all expressed that students who really excelled in their program had kinesiology backgrounds. Now, of course, there are students who come with many different backgrounds to chiropractic school and excel. But, I knew that, for me personally, I wanted to have a really strong background in anatomy and physiology, so I went with kinesiology. Now, how to get into chiropractic school. I am super passionate about sharing this with all of you because it can be a little bit confusing, just like when you're trying to apply to any type of graduate program. So, a few things to note about chiropractic school is, one, there's no entrance exam. What? I know, right? It's kind of crazy, but there is not any entrance exams required to get into chiropractic school. And, two, you want to make sure that you are choosing the right program for you. Every program is different, so it's really important to explore all of your options. And, in a later video, I could give you my best tips and tricks to help you decide on the school to go to. But, we're going to stick specifically with the application process to get into Parker University. So, let's talk about that. OK I pulled out my phone for this one because I actually made a post on my @Destination.DC Instagram account in regards to this exact subject. So, I'm just going to read you word for word a few of the requirements to get into Parker University. First, you have to complete 90 hours of undergraduate course level work. Now, it has to be at least 90 hours. So, if you wanted to complete your 90 hours with the requirements that I'm about to tell y'all and then apply to get into Parker, you could do that. Or, you could complete your undergraduate degree and then get into Parker. So, the number two is 24 of the 90 hours must be life and physical sciences, with half of those being labs. So, again, 24 of the 90 hours have to be life and physical sciences, and at least 12 of those 24 hours must include a lab. Number three says Parker normally doesn't conduct interviews, but may require them. It's completely up to the discretion of the university. Number four, credits should have been completed within 10 years of matriculating into the program. So, have to be recent and current. And then, you basically just complete the application. You can either find that on their website or email an admissions counselor to do so, either or. You have to send all of your transcripts from any school that you've ever gone to and you need to write a letter of purpose, which is basically an essay on why you want to be a chiropractor. Why you want to do what you want to do and why you are choosing Parker. The application fee is $75 unless you have a fee waiver code. Another thing I wanted to add is that it's always good to include letters of recommendation. And, in a later video, I can go into how you can go about going getting letters of recommendation and getting doctors and peers to write those for you. But I included two letters of recommendation from my two mentors. Okay, so now that I have introduced myself to all of you and we've gone over what it takes to get into chiropractic school, I now want to talk about the fun part, which is why I chose Parker University. So, why I chose Parker University? I chose Parker because they have a balanced three legged stool, which means art, science, and philosophy of chiropractic. They really let the student choose what kind of chiropractors be, while providing them with this many resource is is possible. One of the other reasons why I chose Parker University is because the president, Dr William Morgan, puts a huge emphasis on making master adjusters. And this is crucial to the chiropractic profession and graduates of chiropractic schools everywhere because the adjustment is what sets chiropractors apart. One of the other main reasons why I chose Parker University as my chiropractic school is because Parker is a family, and it actually reminded me a lot of Texas A & M University. If you know anything about Texas A & M, you know that we're very close knit and Parker really, really resembled that. The other reason is because of their values. They put a huge emphasis on service ,and although we're not able to be on campus at the moment, not all of us are able to be on campus at the moment, I'm very much looking forward to the day that we are so that we can continue with Parker Serves, which is the tradition around the birthday of chiropractic each year, where Parker, students, faculty, and staff go out and serve the community. Something else important to note is that Parker University is accredited through the Council on Chiropractic Education, or C. C. E. Parker is located in Dallas, Texas, which was also a draw for me, as I did not want to leave the Great State of Texas. I am a Texas native myself. And Dallas has so much to do. It's a city I've never lived in before, and so I wanted to be able to go somewhere that was still in Texas because I love it so much, but that I could feel like I was experiencing something new. So, it was the perfect fit for me location wise. Parker is a university. Therefore, it has other programs than just the doctor of chiropractic program. It has programs in diagnostic imaging, healthcare management, and even occupational therapy programs, and more, so even if you're not interested in chiropractic, you can still look into Parker and see if they have something that fits what you're looking for. Well, I hope that you've enjoyed this video and learned a little bit more about not only why I chose Parker University, but why you should consider Parker University as your home for the next few years. I just want to close this video by saying follow along with more news and information about Parker @ParkerUniversity on Instagram.
