HOW I GOT MY FIRST FASHION INTERNSHIP AS A SOPHOMORE | NC STATE UNIVERSITY
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
My room at home wearing living this summer is an absolute wreck because just moving in and out so much for college really makes it inconvenient. The storage, it's just not really going well right now, like it's honestly just a mess. I wanted to start by explaining how I got my first fashion internship as a sophomore in college. So I'm going to start from the beginning and hopefully this will help you guys that are currently in college and are looking for internships, or if you just want to learn more about the process. Most of the time in the fashion industry, I've found that they're mostly looking for rising seniors or current seniors whenever it comes to internships, especially like paid ones with larger companies like department stores. I knew looking for an internship at this age would be a little more difficult, especially because even though I'm in fashion, tech sound management, my concentration is brand management marketing. I really wanted to be in the industry that I hope to have a career, and so I really wanted to have a fashion related internship, and I was really set on doing that like it didn't apply for any that weren't fashion related. Like I said, it's harder to find an internship with a bigger company. The blogger is really the only type of experience I have with the fashion industry, and some people probably don't even count that. We're pursuing the area of the fashion industry that you want to be in in another way, aside from the internship before you apply. So I knew I wanted to look for a smaller internship so that I would be able to apply for a bigger one next year. I started looking for internships just through Google. How anyone else would I would type in like fashion internships in North Carolina or fashion internships. I got my internship that ended up with, and I am fortunate enough to be able to live at home and just drive to it every day. Like I was saying, I was just Googling searching for different internships. So I definitely recommend starting to look for internships in like January. If you're looking for an internship for the summer, I also think it would be good to try to get an internship in the college town that you're living in throughout the year. If you're able to do that because, like I said at a younger age, it's really competitive in the summer because there's not many opportunities. It's about an hour and 1/2 from my hometown, where I am living this summer, and that is summer boutique, and I decided to apply their for their digital content creation internship. Like, rented out one of the spaces in our library to, like, be able to be in a quiet space where I could talk with them and they just ask questions about, like, my style and what I would expect from the internship and what I plan to do in my career. Like, who are some of my favorite blogger? Since this is like a digital Conti creation internship stuff about, like, what direction do I think Summer birds should go in as faras visual content creation, just different questions like that along those lines. Post is really short, like one or two sentences and had me give bullet points of ideas I had for video talk about what I hope to get out of the internship or something like that. So this internship is unpaid and it's for school credit. So I work two days a week from 11 to 7 p.m. For the internship because that's what the clock's requires for credit. I'm doing an internship and then they're like, Okay, like, tell us about it. I think it's like textile internship credit or something, and it counts. Now I'm in the textile class and once a week I just type up what I did that we got my internship and then submit that, and then I'm also going to have to do a paper about it and a presentation about it. That's why I ended up turning in one lane, and I feel really, really bad about it. I had to add that class to be able to get credit for my internship, so that all kind of ties in together with what I'm doing. I'm doing to summer classes and an internship and typically over the summer I would work at the recreation center here and teach tennis lessons. As much as I want to like, work in retail to get the experience, I really am not ready for that. I kind of talked to my boss at the internship about this because I've been doing the internship for about two weeks now. I haven't started doing that yet, but I will also be doing that and at the end of the summer I plan to do a whole video on what I really did throughout my whole internship. I've been working on establishing their YouTube channel and getting together as you TV videos because they're really big about that and just doing different. So that's really what I've been doing at the internship so far. I'm so excited Thio build a relationship with this guy like wish that they were located in Raleigh so that I could have a more long term relationship with them and actually makes me sad to think about like we're already 1/5 of the way through the internship. I'm really thankful that I got this experience, so that's what I'm doing. I'm really trying my best, but like I said, I work 11 to 7 at Summer Bird and it's an hour and 1/2 away, so it's really like 9 to 9. So I've been really trying to work on better quality content. So I'm going to do internship output of the week videos for sure.
