Hey, all my name is Olivia, and I'm a current junior at N. C. State University. I'm in fashion textile management, and today I'm going to be talking about how I got into my school. So if you haven't seen any of my previous videos, I fell in love with NC State through their summer textile exploration program. That is a camp that is a week long for the summer of rising seniors in high school. So you do it the summer in between your junior and senior year, and you're able to learn about all the different fashion and textile majors that we have through the Wilson College of Textiles. So I went to that right before my senior year of high school, and I fell in love, and that's why I decided that I wanted to apply to stay as my number one school. Knowing that N. C. State's acceptance rate isn't as high some other colleges in the state can be a little daunting. Going in knowing that I had that experience that step, I knew that I would have something to build my application off, so that really helped me. So I had a lot of questions and essay questions about why I want to be in this major and what I want to do with this Major. So I really learned a lot about the program that I was applying for a while at steps. I was able to really discussed that within my essays and show how passionate I waas about the industry that I was applying to study about. So that was something that I felt like really helped me as far as, like, G p A and test scores and all that. Of course they're important, but I wouldn't stress over them too much. I think you really need to shine in your essays and in your hobbies and in your extracurricular activities, in your volunteer work, in your passions, like that's where you need to shine. I know I got about 50 50 A's and B's throughout high school. Then I probably got like, one or two seas, so whatever that factors out to make your GP A know that you don't have to be a straight. I sued it now that making one C is gonna make you not get into college. Then as far as my test scores, I do not use my s a T scores at all. I only use my a C t scores and I didn't take a C T prop in high school. Then I re took the a c t as many times as I could just to try to improve my scores. I think my final score overall like taking your highest score from each section and averaging it. I know now they actually just announced I saw on Twitter that you can take individual tests over again. Select Say you did really well in English, but you didn't do so good in science that so I was I would do about on the science every single time. You don't have to retake the whole thing, which I had to rethink the whole thing, and I would just recommend keeping retaking the scores that you're not doing as well and to try to improve your scores. If your score never goes up, honestly, don't sweat it that much, because I really do think that the admissions office wants to see you shine through your hobbies and your extracurriculars and your essays. So whenever you are listing things you've done, you want to make sure to talk about any leadership opportunities you had in high school, such as being a captain of a sports team. Or maybe if you were president of your high school or president in a club, some type of leadership position that you hod if you are a part of National Honor Society at your school, I know that that is a really big thing. I know they also have key club, which was our boy version, but your school might just call a key club, and that is like solely based on volunteer work. So it's great to talk about that and talk about all the volunteer experiences you've had in high school. I would also add, like sports and high school involvement. One thing that I regret was not talking about my love for, like blogging and YouTube and videography and just sharing my experiences with others because I was really into photography and fashion and blogging whenever I was applying. I didn't really know that that was like a key point to show colleges like, I think that it would be a really great thing to show because it shows that you're passionate and that you have something that you're working on, your devoted and driven, and I didn't really talk about it enough. So just try to think about the areas in your life that you shine and that you, in your free time doing you know, school was great and, like grades are great. What do you spend your free time doing? What are you passionate about? Those are the things that I would focus on in my college application.
