Hey, guys, it's me again, Bethany, and I'm here to talk to you about my academic experience, Um, in the co guide school of business. So to pre face eight is Cove in 19 ERA. So due to the health guidelines of the CDC at this moment, and even the mayor of Washington, D. C. And just taking extra precautionary, um uh, measures measures American University, American University for the fall 2020 semester did not meet in person. American University chose to do the program online, so I was a little bit bumped out. So the one thing the biggest thing I really like about my program is even though it's online, they do not smile or little anything. I remember I got an email from my social marketing for social change professor, and he said something that really encouraged my heart, and he says something that he said something along the lines of. Really it was for that hands on learning experience also. Just to even have a professors that's gonna say, Hey, even though we're not in person, I will make sure that the hands on learning experience doesn't die, even though we're in a virtual setting. Super easy to talk Thio, um, super important toe have office hours with them because we're all in the same place in our homes. So it's not like you have to catch a professor here, catch a professor there. In every group project we have, what's up groups and what I really, really like about my cohort is that we make sure that we have fun. So we have funding are what's that? But we also have happy hours on Zoom, which I really appreciate it really like just to unwind, but really get to know each other. Um, two of them are split in half, but they're taught by the same professor. So one of the things that American universities Kogod school of business, especially the marketing program is really, really into is group work. Because when you're marketing, marketing is a collective effort. What I really like is that all of us are very different. So when I was interviewing with Professor Michael Clayton, uh, program director for the program, the first thing he told me is that I know you have a lot of creative background, but this is not what the program is on. Really wanted to get into the science of marketing and the human behavior of marketing. So if you're looking for a marketing program that teaches you just strictly about creativity, American Universities marketing program is not it. What I really love is that I can use my creativity, and I could bring my already established create itself to the table. While I'm learning about market research and quantitative and qualitative types of research, um, mhm, we have a market research class, which is really important because even if I personally don't plan to get into, like, a market research role, but it's really important that we have the basics of what does it mean to gain market research? What can you use? I really like how the how the program, how the market research classes split up. The second half after the midterm is really working with statistics software. So I really like how the class is not strictly stat or anything, but we deal with really realize situations, case studies, case studies, reading a lot of case studies. Having a professor that is going toe walk us through the stat portion that has been really like freeing. Professors will pre recorded lectures and you watch it, which will flow right into your synchronous lecture that you meet on zoom at the certain time I have a set of space in my formal living room that isn't fully furnished just yet. I have a class with Professor Ron Hill who is super awesome in his classes. I love to hear others talk, But I really appreciate about that. Class is dealing with our client projects, which is you get to pick whatever, um, industry that you wanna work in and really kind of bringing in your prior experiences as I said, your strength, but also being able to give recommendations to the brand. What I really enjoy about the marketing program is you learn and you execute all at the same time. I have a social change for marketing class and also my research marketing class, which a lot of the things kind of overlap love the inter intertwined. So if you're looking for a program that is not just very like classroom heavy base, this program is super super like intertwined. Every class comes together in every class, makes sense way meet on zoom during all the class times. You do all the readings before class and then you do you still have some post class readings dependent on the class and professor, so it's really important that you are structured every month. Um, they suggest that you don't work a full time job while you're in the program, and I second that suggestion. It's a lot of outside of class work, and you wanna be focused. Um, I'm still getting some money, but I'm still focused on school, focused in my classes, not rushing from work to a class. Honestly, time management is super super key into succeeding in grad school. Yes, we do meet on zone, um, in every single like every single class time that's been posted. If you can't make a class for some for a reason or whatever. All classes are super interactive, still very much hands on, still very much group oriented. If you're looking for a school that cares about, ah, whole list of going experience, American University Co got school business.
