The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
Today we're going to be talking a little bit about how I got into Houghton. So just for background context, my father is a pastor in the Wesleyan church. Um, and since ho in college is a Wesleyan college, I spent most of my childhood at family camps at Houghton in the summer. I just remember hanging out with all the Houghton students, um, and wanting to be one of them. So at a very young age, I had already decided that I wanted hoping to be my home, Um, during my college years, and so it was really exciting for me going through this whole process to finally be in a place where I wanted to be for a very long time. So for my essay topic, it was on how my faith has changed throughout the years and how I thought that how in would complement my faith and helped me to grow. Um, and the whole an essay topic is a personal statement. Now, in this personal statement, they want to know about you who you are, person. Um how you've gotten to where you are, how your faith has played a role in your life so far. I really think that the admission officers really appreciate authenticity. Like I said, they just want to know who you are on dso just being honest in your application on drily showing them your personality, um, would be my biggest advice to you. So another thing about your application process is that the S A T scores and the A C T scores are optional. Um, but I would definitely recommend and encourage that you turn in these scores as they will count towards your scholarships. Um, so that is always helpful to get any other bit of money that you can. One thing about the Aesop's my advice would be to take the PS 80 because I think it's important to understand Where do you stand? Um, currently. Then on the things that you struggle with, then you can study those certain things. Um, instead of studying everything right, you just study those certain things that you're struggling with, and then that will help you to do better for the real estate team. Another thing was, I took the s a t, I think two or three times when I did that, until I got a constant score. As I was going to dio Andi, I felt confident, you know, turning in those scores. Another thing I would recommend, um, that I wish I had done a little more is to always reach out to your enrollment adviser whenever you're struggling or whenever you have any questions, they're there to help you. They want this to be the perfect college experience for you, and they want to make it happen for you. One thing that I really needed help with, Um, during my, um, process of enrolling into Houghton, um, it was really the price I really needed to work on the price. So that is one of the things I did reach out to my enrollment adviser about We discussed it and they really helped me to be able to get the price down to what I needed it to be in order to come. They want you to be here s so they will do what they can in their power to make that a possibility for you. So also during my application process, um, while they're reviewing my application, they also looked at my scores to see if I was eligible for the, um, honors programs here. Houghton, um and I was so during that process, they also invited me to come to an interview weekend on. So if you know you turn in your scores here and you get invitation, I would definitely recommend you take it. If you get in, then you get to go toe London, which is amazing. So that is also something I would push your students to look out for and to take advantage of if the opportunity arises. Like I said earlier, hoping really want you to have a great experience here. Please just feel free to always reach out to the admissions office. Anyone during the process who can help you, Um, to make that a reality for you. So that is the story of how I got into Houghton and just some pieces of advice, um, to help you through your process.
