Today I'm going to give you some advice about college. So my first piece of advice is to pick a college where you want to be like the people who are there. If you want to be a certain way, surround yourself with people who are like that one of the main reasons why I chose to in, um I saw an example of people who I wanted to be like. So I came to hold on and surround myself with people like that. There are a lot of scholarships out there that just aren't advertised very well, So make sure to look for opportunities. Um, essays that you can write things that you can enter all that kind of stuff. You don't need to come into college knowing what you're going to dio. You will figure that out while you're going through college. Um, in a liberal arts college, like how? And you're able to try a bunch of different things to see where your interests really lie. So it's okay to be confused when you first come in. I'm gonna hopefully throughout the first two or three years you're here, you'll figure out what your interests are more and what you would like to do. I think it's really important to actually be able to see for yourself what a college is like, Um, and to interact with people who work here and especially interact with current students. If you can see what current students or like, like back to my first point, you could see what, um, you will be like. Also current students will tell you the truth about what this colleges like. So you be able to get a better view of what it would be like for you here at college. This is for a perfectionist like do not worry about being perfect here. I feel like most high school students coming to college. You've been preparing for this, um, for a long time. Believe in yourself and know that you can get this work done now for some home and specific advice. Do not spend all of your flex dollars within the first month. Um, my first year here, I spent all of my money within the first month. Be sure to ration it out, especially when it comes to finals weeks. You probably want a lot of coffee, a lot of comfort food. So make sure to really think ahead when you're using your tax dollars. Number two do not repression yourself to do everything. There are a lot of opportunities for you here at Houghton. Um, and it can be hard to choose between what you wanna dio when it comes to clubs and activities? Um, jobs here. The really great thing is you have all four years here to do whatever you want to do, So I do not feel pressure to do it all within your first semester or even within your first year. Sometimes it's important to prioritize your mental and physical well being over your academics. It's really important for you to take care of yourself holistically, Um, and here at home and we have the student center for success, um, which actually specializes in taking care of students holistically, academics, mental health, physical health, all of that. They want to help you, and they want to get to know you. Please make use of them and lastly, find places around campus to study. Don't just spend all of your time in your room when you study around people. You leave the door open for communication and friendship and hang out with people. So it's really important to not always keep yourself in your own study. Um, I understand that sometimes that is a necessity when you need to cram. Whenever you can find a place around campus in open areas to study. We have a hammock circle where students can set up their hammocks and study outside. So bring a hammock, um, not only for the hammock circle, but also hang on all the trials that we have if you want to take it to Lech worth. Good luck with your college searches, and I hope that this was helpful.
