I'm very excited because today I am bringing to you Rachel Char Schmidt, who is a fellow grad student and a friend. Yes, I'd like to talk to her because she has been here at home for longer than me. Rachel, can you tell us how old you are? And, uh, what is that? You study here, Hilton. So I am 22 years old, and I got my undergraduate degree here in using education with an emphasis invoice. Then I decided to come back here for a master's degree in choral conducting. Rachel, you mentioned that you stayed in music education, and I like you to please talk to us a little bit about what it was like. What were the opportunities that you had here? Uh, the ensembles that you joined. Something really nice about Putin is that I was able to also continue my studies as a violinist. So since my freshman year, I have been playing with the orchestra s. So I did that for all four years of undergrad, as well as to join the college choir er during my sophomore year for my senior year Lear Theater, which meant participate locals and offers throughout my time here. So the experience is a really diverse here, and what you're able to do regard your major. I'm so glad you mentioned College Choir and later theater and the orchestra artisan. We actually in the college choir are made up a lot of non major students and same thing with the orchestra and as well. Anybody who friend of music has a passion for music is great. Rachel, what you mentioned when you mentioned Larry Theater I just wanted Thio. I just wanted Thio thio Tell us a little bit more about what it was like to do their theater for these years and to work with Professor Cox. Professor Cox is the director of the Lyric Theater Ensemble. How did how was it to work with Professor Fox? Yeah. It was just a really positive with Yeah, I think all of us can share the same thoughts you just said about Professor Fox. Um, but do you think this is, uh, this is an experience that we have in general with the professor with the professors here at Lincoln College? Oh, all of the professors, you're hoping have had an open door policy. I just have a nice little chat with them that professors very well. Dr. Black is the director of College Choir and men's and women's Choir. Rachel, since she is a for a grad student, she is studying under him now for her master's degree, And I just wanted to ask you about what is what is it like to work with Dr Black and also what the difference is between the choir's men's and women's choirs and college choir. Yeah um, Men's and Women's Choir is a choir that any first year students, um, want to be a part of. They go right into the men's and women's choir to kind of teaching the ropes and what it's like to be enquired. Hear a tone, and then, after your first year, you can audition to get into the college choir and anybody can audition. Anybody can audition for college choir as long as you've been here for longer than a year. Since it's an audition only, um, ensemble and Dr Black ones both of those choirs. He's a very knowledgeable person, very personable. Rachel Cysts, you have being here at in college for five years now, I'd like you to share with us what was like your best experiences here, or the best moments that you can't remember. Yeah, so I'm kind of mentioned this earlier, but probably one of the most impact do not being is. I mean, we talk about it all the time, but the sense of community here on by the fact that I feel so well supported by all the professor had so hard Yeah, that that really is amazing. This is also something that I mentioned in one of the past videos because I don't think I have ever been in a place like this where, like, the sense of community is so honest, and it's just it's an amazing experience being here. Um, Rachel, now this this is towards the end of our interview. Thank you for being here and thank you for watching. My last question for you is what are your plans after your graduation here at Hope College? Yeah. So I think specifically, I would love to teach general music to keep little nuggets. Then I also would love to title choir, and I'm exploring. Can you can you tell? I think maybe watching this video, who might be interested in coming here or who are curious about home from college. What would you say to them? I would say that this is a very great school, very unloving. Accepting on git creates a really great foundation for education and knowledge that you might need.
