-Hi, my name is Rose.I am a student at HampshireCollege from Whitefish, Montana.I am in my final semesterof division three, which is your finalyear at Hampshire.I study ecologyand creative writing. For my division three project,I am doing a managementplan for WhitebarkPine in GlacierNational Park includinga creative writing pieceto educate the public10and also a study proposalfor some field work.11There are five housingareas on campus,12three of these are the Mod Villages, which are like apartments,13and then there’s two dorms.14My first year,I lived in the Dakin dorm,15which most studentslive in either Dakin16or Merrill dormson their first year.17I was in what’s called an LLCor a learning living community.18We all studied different things,19but we were interestedin some kind of common subject.20For us,it was bodies, brains, and culture.21We would meet every other week.22We would do everything fromdissecting a sheep’s brain to brain23games to talking to an alumna abouthow she combines art and science.24It was a really good experience.25We were a very close hall, and that when I talk to most people,26it’s pretty common for hallsto be fairly close.27I think that LLC helpedus become closer.28It was really nice becauseit’s like a little family.29We always hung outin each others rooms.30We would just leaveour door open and wander in.31We would hang outin the lounge all the time.32It was really nice having a singlebecause we could be very social,33but I could alsoclose my door and have34that space to myselfwhenever I needed it.35I know some people reallylike having meals made36for them all the timethrough the meal plan,37but I personally wantedto cook my own food.38That’s one of the things thatI wasn’t crazy about with the dorms,39but I do really likeabout living in the Mod.40We have four lecturehalls on campus,41but you’re never goingto have a class in them.42Hampshire classes arenot really lecture-based.43They’re generally muchmore discussion-based.44They’re pretty small. They’reusually twenty to ten students.45I really like this becauseyou get to be very close46with your classmatesand also with your professor.47They are generally verysupportive and very helpful.48One of my favoriteparts about Hampshire49has been getting to know the people50and the communityand the professors because51there is just so manyamazing people here.52Social life at Hampshire isa little bit different right now,53a lot more outdoor study parties54and roommates just havingour own tiny party.55Generally, there is a lotmore academic things going on,56on campus like different lectures.57You can come to eventsat the other four colleges as well.58There is some really coolstuff that goes on there.59Also,things like conferences on campus,60one that I really enjoyis the Queen Conference,61which is a very coolevent and a lot of fun.62Things as busy as HampshireHalloween or things like Bingo.63They are all great.64I found out about Hampshirethrough a book that65my older brother gaveme about unique colleges.66I was actually hesitantto come and look at Hampshire67because it was the lastcollege I looked at,68and it was the farthest away, but as soon as I took a tour,69I knew this was where I had to be.70I immediately applied,an early decision.71I am extremely happy that I did.72I feel like I getan experience at Hampshire73that I really couldnot get anywhere else.74I feel like Hampshire has reallymolded me into the person I am today.75I am extremely grateful for that.76Some final advice to anyprospective students77looking at Hampshireis that Hampshire78definitely cares a littlebit more about showing things79you have done on your own, whether it’s volunteering,80extracurricular stuff, versusyour actually test scores, grades.81They look more for improvement overtime versus consistent good grades.82Thank you for looking at this littlequick overview of life at Hampshire.83If you guys have any more questions,go ahead and email admissions.84Thanks for watching and thanksfor checking out Hampshire.
