It’s a rainy day here at Hampshire College. So I'm going to go do my laundry. Gonna come with me. I live in Enfield area housing this year, So the Laundry Room for Enfield is just a block away. Hampshire College has three different apartment style or townhouse style residences outside of the traditional dormitories that we offer at the college. Aside from the Dakin and Merrill dormitories, there's the Greenwich Enfield in Prescott houses, which each have different architectural styles and social atmospheres. These are usually referred to by Hampshire students as mods and they're spaces that accommodate anywhere from 4 to 10 students, including single and double rooms. This year we're not really having students share room, and Hampshire College traditionally has had over 80% single housing options, so you could live in a room by yourself without having to have a roommate. Because of Covid-19 we've switched more to 100% model where students are keeping their own rooms and a lot of the mods have downsized. That there's a lot of empty rooms, Um, in order to prevent any kind of potential spreading of Covid it on campus The mods have kitchens, bathrooms and living dining areas, in addition to the areas and spaces within the individual mod. There's also often communal spaces that could be accessed by anyone in that living area. In Enfield, we have a basketball court that students can use. We have a laundry room, and we also have various other campus services and opportunities that are accessible in the space of Enfield, including the Wellness Center, the Center for Feminism and the Housing Office, where you can rent out board games and get cleaning equipment for your mod like borrowing vacuums and free toilet paper. And you can also go ahead and, um, participate in various activities in the area that are coordinated by residential advisors or Ras, such as movie nights and game nights. Today, I wanted to take you with me on a trip to the laundry room to show you how laundry services work in the Enfield area. Hampshire College, I live in Enfield. I'm really lucky that in Enfield laundry rooms and all of the ones rooms on Hampshire's campus. We have free laundry services so we don't have to pay to use the machine. It makes it a lot easier to do cleaning every week, especially in between. Classes Our laundry rooms are open 24 7, so you can come at any time to do your laundry, even if it's like two in the morning. There are vending machines in some of laundry rooms which is really nice, for if you're waiting for a laundry and you wanna snack or something in the middle of the night that you access on campus. So I'm gonna grab a soda. Now that my laundry is done, I'm gonna put it in the dryer over there, kind of pulling my laundry out, and you can see there's another student coming to the laundry room. Doing your laundry is a pretty popular thing for Monday's when you have a lot of other stuff to do that you could get done in between like going to class or homework assignments. Here I’m just putting my wet laundry in the dryer and normally doesn't take that long to wash and dry clothes. Honestly, the entire process of doing laundry takes about two hours. Before going to college, I like a lot of other college students didn’t do my laundry as much as my parents did it for me. So coming to Hampshire was really cool because I was able to start taking care of myself more by cooking in the kitchen the mods have and doing my own laundry and figuring out what life is gonna be like after college, if I were to live in an apartment or anywhere that it wasn't with my parents. Yeah, I'm just putting, um, some laundry in the dryer. Something else that I really like besides not having to put quarters in the machine or pay for the laundry services at Hampshire is that there's also a website that you can use to see whether or not the washers and dryers are full. So on weeks, when I'm really busy, I'll just check the website and I'll use that to inform whether or not I'm going to do laundry that day. It's pretty convenient, and I like being able to check on it ahead of time. So I know if the laundry room has a lot of washers in use or a lot of dryers in use , I could just reschedule when I'm going to get stuff done. Um, for my like, cleaning and laundry routine. A few minutes after that really easy process of getting my laundry done, I'm headed back to Enfield in
