Hi there. So I'm Glenn. I use they/them or she/her pronouns. And Tessa, I use she/her pronouns. I stole her because I was tired of talking about my school. I want her to speak about my school. I am from technically Connecticut now, but I grew up Massachusetts for most of my life. So not much movement there. And I am studying, acting and dance. My official Div Two title is stories through acting and dance so very much looking at choreography and acting for film and acting for theater and acting in dance and stories through different ways and how they can be shown through movement and also through words and text, so yeah. It's always really fun when you talk about what you're studying, as opposed to just dancing all the time because you dance all the time and it's beautiful. It's just what I do, yeah It's a very fun thing to live with, but I'm happy you enjoy it. If it wasn't a good thing to live with we'd have some problems. Maybe a little, maybe a slightly. I chose Hampshire because I have a really hard time taking tests and I was really excited about the prospect of never having to take a test again. And also I'm somebody who likes feedback and so I liked the idea that my grades weren't letters, but we're instead going to be evaluations of how I am doing in the class. It doesn't stress me out as much as like if I have a C. However, I also came here because I was looking at other colleges in the five areas, and so I liked the fact that you could take classes at other colleges.Yeah that's kind of how it was for me too, we both take a lot of Five College classes of I've managed to take tests and, like only one class, and I've taken a lot of different classes on campus so Yeah, and we're both 3rd-years now. So chose you have a lot of freedom. Yes, you have a lot of freedom. You get to study anything you want in any type of area. I was originally going to be studying the anthropology of theater and dance, and when I said other schools about that, they were like That's not possible. I came to Hampshire and they were like, That's totally possible. Also, you don't have that many classes you have to take, so you have a lot of freedom with that. You don't have to take core classes or anything, which has been nice, because I could take the classes I want to take without having take less. I guess a con is because of that. There isn't that much structure. And so if you don't have a good relationship with your advisors or if you don't know how things work, you kinda have to figure out everything on your own, that's true. Like you do have advisors, you can go to help in a different place. But it is not somebody being like you have to take this class, this class, and this class in order to fulfill this major. It's very much like Make sure your advisers agree with it, like which can which can have some cons, depending on how you learn, how I've done that is I've just sort of looked up major requirements for other colleges and then been like, Okay, do I actually care about this? No. Is this important to me? Yes, but the general structure, I just sort of stolen for my own. My precious. Yeah, I'm not sure if this is a pro or con, but it's a very rural environment, and it's very pretty. It's very pretty, quite used to this environment, but I do have some friends that are not used to this environment. It is very pretty, especially fall. I mean, New England is known for its fall. First of all, there's a lot of snow. Make sure you bring jacket. I didn't. And then just one didn't way. we had to go shopping pretty quickly. You want winter coats you want winter boots. It is going to snow. Also like good mittens that are waterproof study. Yeah, proof. Because otherwise you'll die when you have to get your car out of the snow. Be careful. Yeah. Yeah. The other thing is that Hampshire is kind of a bit isolated from everything else. There's a store. You go to Atkins. Yeah, there's this really cute grocery store about it. PVT. A bus system is amazing, and it's completely free to college students. So yeah, it's such a lifesaver. If you could go to mall, you can go to all of the other campuses, which means you can go to Amherst and you can go to Northampton, which are some really good places to like go for food and go shopping and stuff and see other people. I'm just counting with thoughts of pro freedom con freedom Pro. It's pretty con. It's cold. Oh, pro of Hampshire: Singles! It's the best, they're so good here. So, I mean, if you really want to double because you like, you need to meet people. You feel like you need to double to meet peopleyou hate living alone. You hate living alone. Yes, there are doubles. And one of our friends was in a double first year, and I think you did enjoy it. But singles equals. You can have fake roommates that your great all the nice friendship parts of roommates with the privacy of not having a roommate. It's very good it is. And I know that my little introvert part probably would've shriveled up and died in my first year of college. If I didn't have a single, I think I would have been fine. Not with you. Like like with maybe somebody else. Yeah, things could get very emotional, I guess. Yeah, like sometimes your Hampshire courses are talking about very emotional stuff, and they're also talking about it in a pretty emotional way. And so it feels like, Oh, but this is just my heart. But I'm presenting to the class and I mean there's small classes, but it still could be a lot. That's dependent because I haven't had to do that in my econ classes. I've had to do it a lot because I'm studying acting and dance and you have to write about your own stuff. You have to do stuff about your own trauma and everything, which is sometimes fine. And sometimes you're like Do I have to? And also you have to, like, work with other people's traumas sometimes. And it's also again, like Do I have to a big pro Hampshire is trigger warnings and pronouns yes, yes, there's a lot of trigger warning because when a lot of in classes talking about emotional stuff and getting really deep into stuff, very aware of the fact that a lot of people have triggers and need content warnings and need trigger warning Ah, lot of dancing acting classes where we're creating work like my choreography and playwriting classes, we often and start the beginning of the semester coming up with a list we make a google docs of everybody's like triggers and, like people will still use them. But they're going to give you the warnings and So if you have to get out, you have to step out of class. If you have to right now, I'm Zooming you have to, like, mute or turn off your camera like that's totally fine teachers are used that are aware of that. And that's not a thing I've gotten at other colleges. And one time I went to a movie screening and it was about the Egyptian Revolution, which is cool and great. But there was footage of people actually being killed on camera that wasn't warned for it at all. I took a theater class at UMass Amherst, and we did our final showcase had absolutely no trigger warnings and they were all like there was a lot of mentions of self harm and sexual assault Yeah, there was. It was literally everything. Throw it into, like, multiple plays. I took the thing back. I went to all my friends. I was like, Okay, what do you guys triggers? I'm gonna warn you for them because I knew what it was but like the people who just came to it didn't didn't really have that be aware of that when you take classes at the other colleges. But I'm classes been good about that and the other
