Meet Dr Katy Proctor, Lecturer in Criminology and Policing
The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
Hi my name is Katy Proctor. I'm a lecturer in Criminology and Policing at Glasgow Caledonian University. I teach two different modules within the Social Sciences programme. I teach in first-year Criminology and Criminal Justice, which is very much an introduction to criminology, and we look at things like what we think of as crime, how we define crime and what the causes of crime and theories and things around all of that. And we also look around sort of related issues like media portrayal of crime. In fourth year, I get to teach a module called Criminological Perspectives on Violence, which looks at things like social harm that happen every day without us even noticing. And we don't necessarily think of them as violence because you can't always see them and you don't think of them as physical violence. So, I really, really love teaching these modules in particular, because it means I get to see all the students and meet all the students in their first year and first trimester at Glasgow Caledonian. So I hope to be introducing myself properly to you in the Autumn.
