Hi, my name is Hamid Homatash and I'm a lecturer in the Applied Computer Games department at Glasgow Caledonian University Game Careers week is a week long series of events and workshops to promote careers and rules in games industry. It's run by the British Games Institute grads and games and Into Games. This year, Glasgow Caledonian University was one of the partner organizations taking part with two events and we were the only Scottish university to take apart. The first event called Make a Game Workshop was for secondary school pupils to allow them to experience creating their first video game. It was attended from five different local schools with about 30 pupils in total. The event was designed to give them an experience of building a platform and video game like Mario in a condensed amount of time and this time they were involved with program and game mechanics, like making the character jump and move, animating the character to make it look nice and designing and building levels to play. Everyone absolutely loved decision, with smiles on everyone's faces and seeing their creations come to life was really inspiring for them and hopefully this will be a memory that lasts with them forever and they take this into the future by getting a job in the industry. The second event was called Get Into Games and was open for everyone. We had about 70 people in attendance and in this event we had a variety of speakers from companies such as outplay entertainment in Dundee layers and griffin and Glasgow, who both shared their experiences about how they got into the games industry, what roles they do and what advice they would love to have known if they had been able to be an event that was similar to this. Also had a talk from into games about wider rules in the games industry and how to get into those rules. And we had talks from GCU staff members who have worked in the games industry itself. The event was really exciting and informative, with loads of questions being asked by the audience and they appreciated the great insights from all the speakers and their enthusiasm and passion from the speakers themselves. Overall, it was a great set of events and it was fantastic to be part
