The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
Hi, I'm Joe and this is Marvin, and we're both senior fashion students here at C C. 80. So do you want to start out by telling people kind of what one of your favorite things about being here for the past three or four years has been? Yes, I think one of my favorite things about being at CCD is learning all the size of the fashion industry and learning particularly more about mass market fashion. I think when people think of fashion, design and the fashion industry typically think of runway designers or the super intricate creative designers, which is again great on one hand. Mass market fashion is just as creative and just as intuitive. I would agree with that, and I think we're also really kind of uniquely situated in the heart of Columbus, which gives us a really nice exposure to these mass market brands because a lot of people don't realize. Columbus is a fashion capital of the U. S. We have a lot of headquarters for a lot of different mass market brands situated right in Columbus, so this exposes us to a lot of mass market and also to a lot of tech design before we move on further. Can you explain to our viewers What's tech design? How it differentiate between concept? Yeah, so concept to me is kind of the idea behind the designs that you're creating. So this is really, really evident when you look at runway shows. You can definitely see how the inspiration kind of inspired the design, whereas mass market, it's a little less obvious a lot of the time just because you have to put so much focus on the garments being wearable. In any level of fashion, the flip side of concept is going to be your tech design, and your tech designers are the people who are going to come up with the patterns for your garments. They're the ones who will be communicating with the factories where your garments are being made to figure out kind of fit and alterations and how these things are gonna go together depending on what size and shape your model is going to be. Concept is essentially the inspiration slash The idea of a design versus tech is the engineering and making sure it's grounded, making sure if you're designed for a mass market brand that you're designing within a reasonable price point fit as well. I think a lot of tech designers go unknown and un appreciative because of the stigma of the fashion street with concept. I think when it comes down to mass market fashion concept is a little bit harder and challenging because you don't have as many concept designers or concept teams as well. So it's again the intricacy of whether you're doing runway or mass market fashion is there. What is one of your favorite things that you have done at C C 80 are learned. So I think for me, my favorite project that I've done here was junior year. You do Joe's Black Book, which is a scholarship project that you participate in. I think for me it was really fun because I finally got to kind of refine my design style. Um, the way things are kind of set up is freshman year. You come in and you do kind of all of your core classes. You also get a baseline understanding of the fashion industry to catch everyone up and get everyone on the same page about what the fashion industry entails, and then sophomore year, you go into learning the different skill sets that you're going to need throughout your time here and your time in the real world. Junior year to me was kind of my favorite year because it's the year you get to really kind of refine your style and make it your own. Make sure you have your own hand and your own way to design so that your projects are uniquely your own. Then now we're in senior year, which is a little bit scary. It's about learning kind of how to present your work and show your work to what will hopefully be your future employer. What was one of your favorite things? Um, I can't say Joe's black Book, that was That was a good response. You kind of learn the like essential grounded material that you need, and then Junior year is also my favorite because it's the most experimental. I know a lot of kids like brand themselves, and there are really, like pushing themselves as far as they could junior year and trying to figure out their style. So I know for me one of my favorite projects was a dress that I did for draping, which was a dress that I designed based on a Nike shoe. Um, I thought it was super awesome because as a concept designer again, you typically focused on the idea. That was one of the first times where I got to see my idea transform into an actual garment. Yeah, yeah, so I think that basically sums up our time here at C C. D. If you want to find out more about the fashion major or about any other major here at C C 80 check out the website, have a good one.
