Hi huskies, my name is Kelsey Larry and I'm a senior in the social work department at Bloomsburg. I'm here to talk to you guys today about your general education and major requirements and goals and credits as far as your college career is focused on and how all of that works so well. Every major bloomsburg University is different in regards to what classes are required for the major, every student is required to take general education courses. So I'm just gonna use myself for an example because I have my course information sheet where here the classes for my major that I was required to take and here's my electives that were general education courses that are required. As a social work student, reaching for my Bachelors in social work, I have to obtain at least 120 credits. Most of my classes were three credits each, but there are certain parts of the curriculum where some classes, like ones that I took for my minor in communication studies, one class was short and was only worth one credit. Your academic advisor is going to be there to support you to make sure that you get the sheet filled out and fulfill all of these academic requirements and what classes worth, how many credits and so on. So with every major, the requirements of classes to earn your degree in that major, like for me is a bachelor's in social work. My social work required courses are different than like a psychology education or business student. Outside of those classes for your specific major or general education courses that every student has to take. There are 10 different general education goals, which I will attach to the end of this video That are required that students fulfill those goals, which is 40 credits minimum of general education courses on top of their courses for their major to graduate. So it is super important that you stay in contact with your academic advisor, so they're helping you go through and fill out the sheet and make sure that you are taking the right classes, selecting the right ones to fulfill the right goals to graduate and earn your degree. It's super important to be staying in contact with them because of checking the number of credits and calculating that up at the end of each semester to make sure you're on track to graduate when you plan to Here in this picture are the 10 goals for general education. These are the 10 goals that students have to complete in addition to the requirements for their major. So these 10 goals are communication, information, literacy, analytical and quantitative skills, cultures and diversities, natural sciences, social sciences, Arts and humanities, Second language, healthy living in citizenship. As you see here on the right of the screen, the minimum number of GPS required means how many credits are required to meet each of these goals. The number of disciplines required means you have to take, for example communications, you have to take three classes or three disciplines to obtain those seven credits to complete that goal. This is the same for all 10 of the different goals for students and this is how they fulfill their general education requirement. The other part will be focused on their major or minor or major is if there are dual major when it comes to earning their degree as a whole. At bloomsburg University, students can independently access their my husky account and check on their class history, the classes that they have passed and earn credits for and be able to then find their advisors information underneath the academics tab and be able to contact their advisor to double check that they are on track for when they want to graduate, what classes they've taken and what they should be taking or classes that might interest them. Their advisors can help them find and get connected with all this information, but most importantly, inform them whether or not they fulfilled all of the certain GDP goals and what classes they have next to take for their major or further minor. If there's any classes that are like prerequisites that they have to take first, all this information is where these academic advisors are there to support you and the students have access to the information to contact them right through their husky account. My husky account is check out my other video on campus reel that direct students on how to navigate and use their my husky account.
