The following is an computer-generated summary of the video transcript.
My name is Kelsey, Larry and I'm a junior at Bloomsburg University and the social work program with a minor in communication studies. I'm a proud first generation college students. A first generation college student is a student whose parents nor step parents or legal guardians attended a four year college to receive a degree. My first piece of advice to first generation college students would be to not hesitate to ask questions. Our university has thousands of resources that are there to help you. The second that I had questions about financial aid, I walked into the financial Aid office main appointment in the very next day. They were able to help me if I was confused material on classes, I asked the professors. I walked into their office hours and they broke things down so that I understood and so that I was successful, because that's what I'm at college for is to be successful and end up with my diploma in my hands, and that's exactly what our staff helps us strive for. My professors have been my support system since day one. They've helped me find mentors within my major who are upperclassmen who are able to help me, help me understand material, help me understand projects and what I was supposed to be doing and where my goal or career could end up. Your hard work does not go unnoticed at Bloomsburg University. After a year and a half of working so hard to keep my G p a and my grades up, working through my introduction to social work classes, my introduction to college courses getting adjusted to college level work and so on. I got offered an induction into the tri Alpha Honor Society, which is Alpha Alpha Alpha, which is an honor society that was established in 2000 and 18 for first generation college students in our university offers that amazing support system to our students, who are first Gen. Try. Alpha is actually an organization that is run by professors, faculty and staff that are first generation college students themselves that were the first to get a degree as well. Then there's also a board of students who are the executive board who are mentors and upperclassmen who are there to support you alongside the faculty and staff. They're there to help you plan short and long term goals, whether it's just for the semester or getting involved or getting your G P a up or even just volunteering in the community. On top of that, then long term goals towards graduation internships where you'd like to work and what career choice you'd like to make. They're there to help you through all of that, because they've been there. They've been in your shoes and you're surrounded by everybody else who's the first and students and being a first down student, you're not really that sure of how hard it's gonna be and so when it is difficult and the workload can be too much to handle. You have the support of these mentors and the faculty and staff, and they can help you with time management and how to figure out your schedule and how to make sure you're getting things done based on priority and all that hard work that they put into you. You put into yourself being a first gen student.
