Hey guys, Abby Grace here. I wanted to take a minute to talk about my major at Berry, which is Communications. So at Berry if you're majoring in Communications, there's possible routes that you can take in that major because Communications is like an umbrella term, it's very broad, so there's lots of different things that go into it. One of them is like Filmmaking, another one is Digital Storytelling, which is more like Journalism, and then there is a concentration of Public Relations, which is what my concentration is. So my major or my degree is Communications with the focus in Public Relations. So one of the main things I'm learning right now in my classes is how to market to the masses and what kind of reactions they're going to have and how you handle it based on those reactions. So it's really cool that I'm getting to learn so many different skills. I'm getting to learn photography skills, I'm getting to learn digital design skills, I'm getting to learn writing skills, I'm getting to learn a basic history of mass communication in America and that's all going to be so essential when I'm actually in the job force, working in PR, working at a company, doing their digital design, doing their storytelling, doing their crisis management. Stuff like that. The thing about all the Communication Professors is that they have had careers in the job field, so like Dr. Hersey, the Film Professor, he was a news anchor for CNN and Dr. Kim Field-Springer, who's my advisor. She was PR Manager for a hospital. So it's just really cool getting to learn about their experiences, and I feel like it helps the students a lot more to get that well rounded Berry education.
