Hey guys, my name is Brook Appelbaum and I'm from Summerville, Georgia. I am currently an Animal Science student at Berry College with minors in One Health and Chemistry and I started my major back in fall of 2019. What really led me to apply to Berry college, I actually applied because of my interest in music. I grew up really close to the college so I grew up going to the Kindermusik program and Bravo music camps out of their middle school so I knew what the campus was like and I knew that it was a place that I really enjoyed but I didn't know exactly what It had to offer me for the career that I was looking at until my interest in veterinary medicine led me to look into their animal science department where I realized that the top notch animal science department was worth applying to, but what really stood out to the school was the facilities, the hands on classes, and the dedicated professors. Along the lines of the dedicated professors was really the small class sizes. The other schools that I was looking at were Auburn and UGA. Places that I knew I didn't want to sit in a 300 person lecture hall and not ever know my professor and them not know me. I really wanted to build relationships with my instructors and with the other staff at my school and after touring Berry and sitting in on a few classes, I realized that this was a place where I could build those types of relationships, not only within my major, but in any class I took in any department on campus. The other things that really stood out to me about the school were the work program because Berry has the animal units, and so as an animal science student, I had the opportunity to work directly hands on with large animals such as cows at the dairy that I would never have had exposure to anywhere else. So that was that was a big factor in my decision along with those acceptance rates to post graduate schools such as vet school. Berry's really high acceptance ratesand hearing from UGA's vet school about how much they value Berry animal science graduate students, as students in their program and hearing about the success of Berry animal science students in their vet school really solidified my decision to choose Berry and especially the animal science program here.
